Today, a wide variety of materials are used for interior decoration. Their differences lie in performance, stability and strength. Modern manufacturers are trying to improve the traditional options and update their technical characteristics. One of the most popular and high-quality types are MDF panels - a durable and reliable material used to decorate various rooms.
MDF panels are in great demand among buyers, which is due not only to good performance, but also to an acceptable cost. In comparison with other, no less popular options, the price of this material is much lower. It should be noted that MDF panels have a lot of advantages. These include:
- good appearance;
- a wide range of choices;
- unpretentious care;
- panels are resistant to temperature extremes.
The peculiarity of MDF boards is the presence of a laminating film. Thanks to this additional coating, the material has the required moisture resistance. It has a long service life, is easy to clean, and is not afraid of the effects of detergents. But it is worth noting that it is not recommended to use formulations that include aggressive chemical components for cleaning surfaces.
Quite often, MDF panels are used to decorate balconies. Thanks to the use of this material, the room acquires an attractive appearance, the heat and sound insulation qualities increase. You can sheathe the balcony yourself, using detailed instructions for this.
Installation of MDF panels on the balcony can be done independently if you have even minimal skills in the repair area. All that is required from the master in this case is to follow the instructions and prepare the tools for work.
The standard kit for this process includes a drill, saw and hammer. To create the sheathing, you need to prepare a screwdriver, fasteners and brackets (for the lathing). In the process, construction foam, a plumb line and a meter are used. It is necessary to take care of the availability of material in advance to create the lathing.
Decorating the balcony with MDF panels takes place in two steps. First you need to create the main crate, on which the material will be attached. Installation of panels on the base refers to the second stage. Before starting the process, the surface must be insulated. The type of lathing directly depends on the size of this layer. Basically, for these purposes, they equip a simple frame or an independent structure.
If the layer of insulation exceeds the 3 cm mark, the second type of base is used. Independent designs allow for smoother surfaces. If the insulation is less than 3 cm or is completely absent, the base is fixed on the wall. The advantage of this option is to save space.
A wide variety of materials are used for the manufacture of lathing. Basically, for these purposes, metal profiles, wooden beams or standard slats are used. If you use the last two options to create a frame, before starting installation, you must process all the elements with a special primer.
If you use metal profiles to create the base, fastening must be done using dowel screws.First you need to take measurements, and then make a markup. Guides are attached to the designated places. Door and window openings will help as a guide during work. The optimal distance is determined from these places.
You need to create a special mark that runs along the ceiling. In the place where it intersects with the corner part of the balcony, you need to fix the dowel screws. Plumb lines are fixed here. In this case, a vertical mark is obtained that reaches the floor.
Using the created markings, guide elements are fixed to the screws. It is necessary to make holes of a suitable diameter on which the fasteners are fixed.
After that, you need to carry out the installation of profiles that are located in the vertical direction. MDF panels will be fixed on these elements. To ensure the strength of the structure, special suspensions or corners are used. You can create such elements with your own hands from the same profile.
The main process
Balcony cladding must be started from the corner of the room. The material is fixed to the frame with self-tapping screws. The correct position of the panels must be measured with a building level.
The rest of the material must be fixed on horizontal strips using special brackets. During installation, all panels must be aligned and excess parts cut off. It is best to use a jigsaw for this process. It is recommended to make the adjustment immediately, fixing the MDF.
At the final stage, the slopes are installed. Along the length of the openings, you need to fix the starting PVC profile.
Many novice craftsmen ask themselves: is it possible to fix corners for decorative design using liquid nails? The answer is unequivocal - yes. This option fixes all the elements as firmly as possible.
