Materials or what to impose
Porcelain stoneware
Porcelain stoneware is considered very popular and quite plastic. Outwardly, this material is similar to ceramic tiles. Facing the fireplace is possible both on an adhesive base and on a metal profile.

In general, porcelain stoneware is used to refine surfaces with significant defects: chips, uneven masonry and simply an unsightly appearance.
The strengths of this facing material are durability, strength, frost resistance. In addition, porcelain stoneware is resistant to all kinds of mechanical damage, temperature extremes and retains the durability of the pattern for a long time.

Tile
This type of finishing material is quite common. And all because it has a wide selection of materials for operation and a fairly low cost. Tiling is possible either to order or on your own. An indisputable advantage is also the strength and durability of the final result.
The tile itself is a safe and environmentally friendly material. Its installation does not take much time and skill. In addition, the stores offer a large selection of different types of tiles: curly, corner and others.

Brick
Brick will be a simple and uncomplicated, but very responsible way of finishing. Everything would be good and beautiful, but you need to choose the material seriously and depending on the place of decoration.
In general, a brick for facing a fireplace must have a brand of at least 200. You must immediately pay attention to the absence of chips and other defects. Otherwise, the work will be in vain. The appearance and strength of the masonry depends on the correct choice of brick.

Red brick for wood burning stoves is the best option due to its fire resistance and durability. However, for heating with coal, fireclay (white) brick is needed. Due to its characteristics, white brick is able to withstand very high temperatures. But red can often be found in interesting decorative options (different shades, grooved, chipped, and others).

Do not forget about the equally important characteristics of a brick. It can be full-bodied and hollow. It is believed that this factor does not affect the strength of the structure. But hollow brick has greater thermal conductivity and lightness.

Tiles
In recent centuries, tile cladding has not lost its popularity and relevance. The main difference between such a material and ceramic tiles is the presence of a rump. Thanks to these protrusions, the tiles have greater thermal conductivity and are more securely attached to the surface.
When cladding in this way, both decorated tiles and plain colors are available.

Artistic panels are mainly laid out in factories by hand, as a result of which prices are inflated on them.

A rock
Stone cladding not only looks nice and cozy, but in some cases even enhances the thermal qualities of the fireplace. Two types of stones are used: natural and artificial.

Natural stones have the ability to lose their heat-conducting and decorative qualities when heated. For example, it is not advisable to use granite, diorite, basalt and others. In addition to everything else, they can suddenly crumble. Therefore, river pebbles will become the most acceptable for facing an operating fireplace. The indisputable advantages of this material are environmental friendliness and durability.

Not inferior to natural stone in quality artificial. Perhaps the only drawback is the high cost of the material. The advantages of artificial stone are the variety of shapes, ease of use and strength.

Tree
The wood cladding isn't bad enough. The material is made of absolutely any shape and size, it is environmentally friendly and lightweight. True, it should be used only for decorative electric fireplaces. A special extravagance and uniqueness of the appearance of the fireplace can be given with the help of wood carving.

Talcochlorite
It is believed that this rock was made for stoves and fireplaces. Talcochlorite has a heat capacity several times higher than brick. In addition, it is resistant to any kind of chemical attack. The material has a natural gray color, but depending on impurities it acquires different shades: white, brown, green and even red.

Sandstone
This is a type of natural stone. Due to the ease of obtaining, the material is quite budgetary. Sandstone is easy to process, has a wide range of shades and a wide range of texture options. The material is strong, wear-resistant and durable. Sandstone cladding will delight you with its quality and uniqueness.

Slate
Perhaps the most popular and fashionable natural stone for cladding in recent years. The rock has a layered structure, high thermal conductivity, durable, has a large assortment in the construction market. The shale color is naturally unusual and heterogeneous, ranging from white to black with multi-colored streaks and blotches. This is what makes the material exclusive and extraordinary.

Granite
Natural granite stone is strong, durable and, importantly, very easy to clean, as it practically does not get dirty. The stone has a wide range of colors: white, black, green, purple, yellow, etc. Granite is in perfect harmony with any interior and looks very aesthetically pleasing. However, due to the complexity of extraction and processing, it has a high cost and is one of the most expensive materials.

Travertine
This material is a type of limestone. Travertine has a fine-grained structure, and a golden honey tint will become a highlight in a designer interior. The material has good thermal conductivity. True, it is used only for surface finishing, since it has a very high cost. Travertine is quite easy to maintain, since the material is polished and primed during operation in order to protect it from contamination.

Metal
An unusual design solution will be metal cladding of both the entire fireplace and exclusively the firebox area. The most popular are brass and copper.
Experts offer not only a polished metal plate, but also models with metal embossing and artistic etching. The choice of options is large and exclusive due to its originality. It is also possible to arrange different types of metal processing.

Metal looks noble in combination with stone and other building materials. It has good thermal conductivity and heat resistance.

Marble
A material that is always in demand. It is a truly elite finishing material and has an almost exorbitant price. Especially if the cladding is made by a master according to a sketch. Marble is unusual in color, looks exquisite, and conducts heat well. Basically, fireplace cladding is assembled from ready-made processed parts.

Onyx
A very effective natural stone. It has a translucent structure, due to which exquisite designer fireplaces are obtained. Often onyx is installed with interior lighting, and sometimes in a composition with marble or granite. Outwardly, the materials are very similar.Nevertheless, in addition to transparency, onyx has the highest technical characteristics in contrast to other natural stones.

Ceramics
It is a versatile and affordable material. Ceramic tiles have a number of positive characteristics. It is reliable, durable, easy to install and maintain, has high thermal conductivity, is resistant to mechanical damage and is environmentally friendly.
In addition, ceramics are available in a variety of colors and shapes. It is also quite easy to do the ceramic tile cladding yourself.

Glass
Glass is not often used for cladding fireplaces. Rather, it is present as a decorative element or as a door. Such a partition gives the fireplace a more aesthetic appearance and protects against the possibility of fires. However, it should be remembered that the glass must be heat-resistant and of a certain thickness.
A significant disadvantage of glass partitions is the settling of soot on them. However, some types of glass are equipped with special protection for such cases.

Glazed fireplaces are more reliable in terms of fire safety and retain heat better. But usually glass cladding is more suitable for decorative fireplaces.

Coil
This material is a kind of natural serpentinite stone. In terms of technical characteristics, it is similar to talcochlorite. Possesses excellent heat-conducting properties. Distributes heat "gently". It comes in dark green and gray-green colors. Hence the name - serpentine, since the color scheme resembles a serpentine.

Shell rock
By itself, a porous and soft mineral. In addition, it is easy to handle and looks beautiful. However, the pores can become clogged with soot, which spoils the appearance of the lining. Shell rock has poor thermal conductivity, therefore, much less heat will come from the fireplace.

Diverse material
It is not necessary to use any one material for cladding. Craftsmen are very successful in assembling various types of coatings.
For example, a good combination would be metal and wood, metal and stone, onyx and granite / marble, glass and brick / wood / stone, etc.

When combining several types of facing materials, it is worth considering the purpose of the fireplace (active or decorative) and the technical characteristics of the elements used.

Adhesives and primers
The counters of specialized stores are full of a wide range of different types of adhesives and primers for fastening facing materials.
However, choosing the right adhesive is not enough. You must be able to cook it correctly. In this case, the masonry will stand for a long time and retain the attractive appearance of the cladding.

There are three types of adhesive base composition that are most commonly used. You can prepare these formulations yourself:
- Dry glue mixture. It is perfect for facing the fireplace, but if the fireplace has decorative functions.
- Cement… Such a composition is suitable for cladding in rooms with high humidity. True, when using cement, it is better to heat the fireplace then only with wood.
- Clay solution. It is more difficult to prepare it than the compositions listed above. But such a solution is superior to them in quality. It has high temperature resistance, is non-toxic when heated, and is quite durable.
In general, mounting glue is available in one- and two-component. The second option is suitable for fireplaces. Such adhesives are produced heat-resistant (withstand temperatures from 150 degrees) and heat-resistant (withstand heating temperatures from 500 degrees).

Adhesive for facing fireplaces must have a number of qualities, such as: elasticity, heat resistance, the ability to withstand temperature extremes.
The following adhesives are recommended for cladding existing fireplaces intended for heating a room:
- K-77 with G-77 primer. Possesses high heat resistance and resistance to temperature extremes. Suitable for cladding with any material. The only drawback is the drying time - up to 25 days.
- ANSERGLOB BCX 35. Has the same technical characteristics as the previous glue, but at a higher cost and dries faster.
- Plitonite-Fireplace Refractory. This adhesive is intended for tiling.
- Plitonite-SuperFireplace and SkanfixSuper. Also used for tiling.
- Clay Terracotta. Ideal for fixing terracotta tiles. Long lasting. Also suitable for cladding with porcelain stoneware, clinker.
- For fireplaces that are used from time to time, IVSILTermix, Kleos, Weber Vetonit Absolute, Moment Crystal, Ceresit CM-117/5 adhesives are quite suitable.

Cost of work
Nobody dares to name the exact price for the work. It all depends on the initial state of the fireplace installation site, the cost of the facing material and other things. Some contractors charge fees for metering, design, and on-site visits.
The foreman makes measurements of the furnace and chimney, selects the adhesive base, material as agreed with the customer.

In general, you can carry out the process on your own. But for high-quality work, it is still better to turn to specialists.

Some firms offer ready-made fireplaces, both decorative (these are mainly electric models) and for direct use.

The difference in the price of work also depends on the type of cladding. The portal is a monolithic structure. It may be difficult to install and deliver. The cladding is a set of parts. Accordingly, ordering cladding services will be easier and more budgetary.
On average, facing a fireplace with granite or marble ranges from 3,500 rubles per square meter.
The total cost of the work depends on the type of fireplace, the complexity of the work and the type of facing material. Consequently, the price is purely individual.
