Clinker tiles Is a popular cladding material. It is relatively cheap, allows you to lay layers at a sufficiently large distance from each other (4 mm). For cladding the stove, you need 8 mm clinker, for fireplaces 6 mm. The disadvantage of the material is the decrease in the efficiency of the furnace. Therefore, it is best to get off with clinker fireplaces, to which not so high requirements for heating the room are imposed.

If you need a "primitive" design of the hearth, but its heating and cooking properties are not important, then you can take a closer look at natural stone, porcelain stoneware. For stoves with a cast-iron firebox, which will be used for cooking and heating, the stone will not work - there is little thermal conductivity. The stove, beautifully lined with labradorite, will begin to give off heat about an hour or two after the hot fire. But a fireplace, on the contrary, can benefit from finishing with a stone: since it is already not very willing to give off heat to the room, additional heating of the stones will increase its efficiency.

When choosing a natural stone for design, it should be borne in mind that most rocks have a rapid loss of water from the composition. This leads to a violation of the structure of the stone and a deterioration in its appearance. Therefore, natural granite, basalt and other rocks are not very suitable for cladding. And granite, in addition, has a background radiation higher than that of other rocks. Of natural stones, it is better to dwell on shell rock, sandstones, marble, feldspar.

It consists of feldspar, clay, kaolin and quartz sand, which is baked at a temperature of 1300 degrees. DIY finishing steps

After you have chosen the material for finishing, you can proceed directly to the cladding

  1. Cleaning the surface to be coated. Removing rust, if it has appeared, leveling, degreasing.
  2. If you are laying facing stone or tiles, you need to pull a reinforced mesh around the fireplace walls and fix it with glue or an adhesive mixture, spreading it according to the instructions for this particular stage of work.
  3. The tile should lie flat, so use a plumb line for the vertical and a level for the horizontal, mark the rows.
  4. If you are laying an artificial stone, then you need to start laying from top to bottom; if you are laying tiles, then the first row should be at the bottom. Each type of tile is placed on a suitable adhesive. You can use a rubber mallet to tamp the tiles.
  5. Place plastic crosses between the tiles to ensure even gaps. Remove the glue that has come out on the surface of the tile immediately, otherwise it will harden and spoil the cladding.
  6. In no case do not grind the seams right away. This can only be done after a day. After that, the tiles must be washed from dust. If the surface is porous, wipe with a cloth.
