Furniture in the hallway is almost always installed, and it is intended primarily for storing outerwear and shoes. Sometimes these are models that are attached to a niche and do not have their own floor and ceiling, full-fledged wardrobes in the entire height of the hallway, and sometimes just glass doors that hide the dressing room. Compactness and aesthetics are the main reasons why you should install a wardrobe in the hallway.

A sliding wardrobe with mirrors in design does not differ from the classic model. The door movement system is designed in such a way that there is no obstacle in the path of the leaves. The exception is volumetric structures: reinforced fittings will be required, since mirrors, together with solid wood, weigh quite a lot.

Advantages and disadvantages

A model with mirror doors must be selected according to several parameters: functions, size and design of the room.

If it is decided to install a wardrobe in the hallway, then pay attention to the pros and cons of this or that model:

  • integrity of space… The built-in wardrobe is the most popular model of wardrobe furniture. Its floor-to-ceiling dimensions actually enlarge the room, thanks to a full-size mirror. In addition, a harmonious space without niches is created. A mirror in the hallway is a must for household members - this is a plus. But such furniture cannot be transferred - and this is a minus;
  • visual increase in the corridor. If mirrors are installed on each side of the cabinet, the space increases several times. The advantage is a reflective surface, and the disadvantage is the increased number of objects reflected in the mirror. Therefore, there should be no unnecessary details in the corridor;
  • good lighting. Another plus is the doubled amount of light in space due to reflection in the mirror. When the hallway is lit several times brighter, it is more pleasant to be in the room;
  • a large selection of decor. Glass can be stylized in many ways: photo printing, sandblasting or laser processing, painting or stained glass. Any of these methods can turn a wardrobe into a unique piece of the interior;
  • style solutions… You can choose a sliding wardrobe for the general style of the hallway - from classic to Gothic execution, or order an individual model.

Differences

Doors made of glass and mirrors do not in any way affect the functionality of the furniture. And in terms of the variety of choice they are not inferior to wooden wardrobes. Flaps can both reflect and enlarge the space. Therefore, first of all, your close attention should be paid to the shape and size.

Sliding wardrobes are:

  • narrow and wide. The correct size for narrow models is from floor to ceiling. In this case, the design of the room looks harmonious. It also happens that the ceilings are too high (for example, Stalinist buildings), then a mezzanine can be placed on top of the wardrobe. Narrow models are installed to emphasize vertical lines in a small walk-through room. The standards are strict: the width must be at least 90 centimeters;
  • built-in. These models are “incomplete” cabinet designs. And if you have a question why an "incomplete" design, then the answer is simple: one of the walls of the wardrobe is missing, instead of it the floor, ceiling or wall of the room is used. Remember that by installing furniture in a certain part of the corridor, in the future, it will be impossible to move it. Choose the decor to match the style of the interior. If this is a small built-in model, then decorate as you wish in a two-door wardrobe.If you decide to install a wardrobe with three or four doors, the decor may vary. For example, for a classic hallway design, you need to combine mirrors with wood coverings. In modern style, it is better to use sash with sandblasted mirrors and drawings. In "hi-tech" you need to add bright details and more plastic;
  • corner… When choosing the shape of your furniture, try to answer the question: How many corners are in your hallway? If you find one extra, then this is a sign to purchase a corner module. But remember that such designs are difficult to install. The doors must be at least 90 centimeters wide. It is noteworthy that in practice it happens differently: the corner cabinet is usually small, and the side cabinets act as the basis for the compartment. Or in another way - two straight cabinets are connected perpendicularly. In this case, both models have one door, closing at the junction. Both pentagonal and trapezoidal modules are constructed in the same way. Corner structures are bulky, so it is better to choose white or gray color;
  • radius. Models with convex mirrors and smooth lines are modern designs. Thanks to new technologies, the curved sash has smooth curves.

There are models in the shape of a circle. Such a cabinet, regardless of the place of installation, creates a sector of a semicircle in the room. It looks unusual and original, but only suitable for modern hallway design. Another option is a concave cabinet. It is used for angular appearance of modules and gives a smooth outlines to the shape.

There is also a combination of concave and convex lines. Installed on any area and any shape. Usually, the slight absurdity and complexity of the hall's proportions is just right for such a wardrobe. In this case, mirrors bear a decorative element, since their surface is distorted. The material is either matted or covered with patterns.

Dimensions (edit)

If you are thinking about which wardrobe to choose, then the best thing that can be advised is a built-in wardrobe. And this is not at all because less materials are used and installation costs are reduced, but because such a wardrobe corrects all the unevenness of the floor, walls or ceiling. The conclusion from this is the following: you can choose a model that meets the individual layout of the hallway. Cabinet furniture cannot be adjusted this way.

Let's touch on such a nuance as the size of the module in the entire height of the room. Yes, a ceiling-to-floor closet takes up more space. Yes, in fact, furniture reduces the size of the room. But on the other hand, due to the height, the structure is perceived as part of the wall, creating a holistic space without unnecessary protrusions.

And, of course, how not to mention the possibilities of mirror coating: any stylization is possible - if only there is enough imagination. But pay close attention to the problem of compensating for an uneven floor - instead of a beautiful decor, the sash can reflect a curved room.

Optimal parameters of wardrobes

The first indicator that you should pay attention to is the depth of the product. The optimal size is 60 centimeters (excluding the size of the sash). This depth is enough for the widest hangers, and winter clothes can be placed on the long hangers. If the depth is 40 centimeters, you will have to hook the hangers with the front side to the doors. But for narrow hallways, there is no other option.

The next indicator is the length of the wardrobe. And this is a very unusual parameter, since it is not limited in any way - except perhaps by the length of the corridor. Everything is allowed: even to install a closet the entire length of the room. Which, by the way, is done very often.

About height: standard indicators are 2 - 2.5 meters. And this is not because there are any restrictions, but because of the need to take into account the dimensions of the frame. Of course, they can also make cabinets at least 3 meters high.

The ideal ratio of all of the above indicators is 1: 3 width to height.Some discrepancies are permissible, but with caution: the more individual the dimensions, the more distortions are created in the design itself. Leaves with the wrong ratio are unstable. With a door of 50 centimeters, it is difficult to open the cabinet, the walls bend. The deformation is sometimes so strong that the door can fall out of the frame.

If the width is from 1 meter, an increased load is created on the walls of the wardrobe, which over time will be expressed as sagging of the canvas

How to arrange

The sliding wardrobe in the hallway must be positioned in such a way that the structure with the wall forms a single whole

  • Having an elongated layout of the room, the best solution would be to install the closet to the narrowest side of the hallway (unless, of course, this is the side where the door is). And even taking into account the fact that the closet may accidentally end up opposite the entrance, this is the best location for the corridor.
  • If your hall has a square area, then you can freely install the cabinet on either side - preferably, the entire wall, or at least before the passage to another room.
  • The niche in the hallway is always arranged under the compartment. Sometimes it can be expanded so that the built-in wardrobe is a little larger than "possible".
  • If it is convenient for you to place the cabinet closer to the door, then the condition necessary for such "arbitrariness" is a corridor with many doors to other rooms. In this case, it is possible to place only a narrow model of the wardrobe.

And completing the listing, we will mention the most interesting placement option: the use of a built-in structure as partitions between rooms, for example, an entrance hall and a living room. This is unusual and pays off with space savings. However, it is quite difficult to simplify a built-in wardrobe to a partition. It is also interesting that such a sliding wardrobe is completely constructed from mirrors - they are fixed on the doors, on the sides and on the back of the module.

Taking into account all the above differences, pros and cons, it will not be difficult to choose a wardrobe with a mirror in the hallway to your liking
