The fence is necessary in order to enclose your own territory, hide the area from prying eyes from the street side, avoid the penetration of unwanted guests in the form of domestic and wild animals, as well as criminal elements.
At the same time, the fence gives integrity to the design of the entire site. For example, if the house is brick or tiled with bricks, and the roof is covered with metal tiles, then a fence made of brick pillars and ceilings to match the roof will become another stylish element in the ensemble of the site.
Standards and regulations
To build a fence, you must adhere to building codes (SNiP). Failure to comply with them can lead to administrative liability in the form of a fine. There are also rules related to compliance with fire and sanitary standards. These standards determine the distances that must be observed when building a fence. The distances are connected with the conduction of underground gas, water supply and above-ground buildings.
An important role is played by the height of the fence. On the border of neighboring areas, the device of solid barriers is prohibited. This is due to the fact that a blank fence will shade the neighboring territory. To resolve this issue, the obligatory consent of neighbors is required, not only verbally, but also in writing with the involvement of witnesses. The height of the building, as well as other dimensions, can be found in the municipal regulations by calling or visiting the local administration.
Self-seizure of territory is prohibited by law. The fence can only be built on the property that is owned.
Be sure to have a certificate of ownership and a land plot plan. If you want to increase the plot, the land must be redeemed and the relevant documents obtained.
Varieties
It is necessary to take into account that a brick fence will look like a medieval structure - powerful and cumbersome. In addition, this will entail unjustified financial costs.
The width of the masonry in half a brick is completely unreliable and will quickly collapse. For good adhesion, the masonry must be laid at least in a brick, while constantly reinforcing with iron rods or mesh vertically and horizontally. If you count the number of bricks to get around at least 6 acres, then it will be enough to build a house.
Building a fence using corrugated board is a more economical, but no less strict and stylish option for erecting a fence. The overlap of the profiled sheet has a large windage. To achieve reliability, this material needs a reliable skeleton to which it will be attached. Brick pillars will serve as a good fastening and reinforcement for the skeleton, and will also give the object solidity and power. The design possibilities are endless.
Calculations
Before the start of the installation work, a fence project is made, a plan is drawn up and the amount of material (brick, corrugated board) required for construction is calculated.
After choosing the material, a drawing is made. It takes into account what tools are available for construction work and what materials are available for this or need to be purchased. The technological process of installation will depend on their availability. That is, the quality of installation will be the same, it will simply be performed in different ways and using different materials.
These tools include:
- concrete mixer;
- welding machine;
- an electric generator (in the absence of electricity).
If some tools are not available, then some metal parts can be replaced with wooden ones.
When calculating installation work, it is necessary to take into account not only material capabilities, but also the availability of electrical supply and natural resources on the site or nearby. These resources include water, sand, clay, crushed stone. The condition of the soil where the fence will be installed is also taken into account. If the site is new, then they preliminarily perform landscape and communication work on their own or with the involvement of heavy equipment. It is more convenient and saves energy and costs in the future.
When the site is already built up and has significant differences in the relief, then it is divided into several parts. The parts will have a span length of 3 meters in most cases. The span length can be increased to a maximum of 6 meters due to the large windage of the corrugated board. At the request of the owner and if the terrain permits, the fence can be made entirely of profiled sheet, and the pillars can be installed in the corners of the site and in places where the wicket and gates will be installed.
Foundation
For high-quality installation, you need to make a foundation for the fence. This design looks more beautiful, it is more reliable than a deaf overlap with corrugated board. The profiled sheet can be mounted after laying the foundation.
The foundation will keep weeds, such as wheatgrass, out of your backyard lawn. It will be more difficult for wild and neighboring animals to dig under it. It will save you from spring or spontaneous floods.
The construction is completed by the lids on the posts. They are concrete, coated with mineral pigments and metallic. They are produced in various types and colors. You can make them yourself. They protect the brick post from moisture, prolonging its service life, and giving completion and originality to the structure.
How to choose?
There are many types of bricks, and any of them can be used when building a fence. Most often, they use the remaining brick from the construction of the house. The battle and waste will be used in the installation of the foundation, which will save on garbage disposal.
White silicate brick will perfectly match any dark color of the profiled sheet. Ordinary red brick is cheaper and more affordable. You can try to combine bricks of different colors. For example, in a checkerboard pattern or in the form of a spiral.
The posts and foundation of the fence can be finished with mosaics or natural stone.
The color range of commercially available profiled sheets is very diverse and can satisfy every taste. But if you wish, you can paint them yourself in a suitable shade using a spray bottle. The modern choice of paints and varnishes allows you to do this.
The configuration of the sheets is mainly wave with different pitch and depth. They can be mounted both vertically and horizontally. The thickness of the metal for the construction of the fence is chosen at least 0.5 mm. It is possible to order sheets with wood or brick finish.
How to install?
To install the fence, you must perform the following work in a specific sequence:
- preparation of the foundation;
- fabrication of a frame (skeleton);
- pouring the foundation;
- bricklaying;
- installation of a profiled sheet;
- fine finishing.
Installation work begins with marking on the ground according to a previously drawn up plan. The markings are done using a pedometer or tape measure, driving pegs into the places where the posts are installed and at the boundaries of the future fence. A nylon thread is pulled between them. A trench is dug along the thread with a depth of at least 25-30 cm. In the places where the pillars are located, the depth must be increased to at least half a meter. The width is freely selectable. If there is a subsequent brick laying around the entire perimeter, then it should be equal to the width of the brickwork. If the soil is soft, then to strengthen the foundation, a trench is dug with expansion in depth. The deepest depth for the foundation is the depth of soil freezing, about a meter. The soil is distributed over the site or removed.
The next step is the installation of the formwork. One of the installation options will be pouring concrete not only of the foundation, but also of the pillars themselves, followed by their finishing under a brick. This monolithic construction is the most durable.
For the construction of formwork, you can use any available material, but most often they use a semi-edged board. Boards are assembled at a level of arbitrary height, leaving a distance of at least 10 cm from the ground. The boards are fastened together with transverse bars and propped up from the outside. After that, an iron skeleton is assembled from rods with a cross section of 8-10 mm. It can be assembled directly inside the formwork or made from the outside and placed inside already assembled. For assembly, welding is used or burnt wire is used. The length between vertical rods is usually 1-1.5 m.
Next, an inch pipe or iron corner is installed at least 30/30 in the center of the location of the future post, which will strengthen the post and will serve as the basis for fastening the guide rails for the corrugated board. Align it in level and secure it with spacers. You can weld it to the skeleton of the foundation.
Start pouring the foundation. If there is no electricity or concrete mixer, use a homemade or metal trough with a size of at least 1 / 0.5 / 0.4 m.
Concrete mix proportions: 1 part of cement, 3 parts of sand, 6 parts of crushed stone; water; 10 ml liquid soap in a bucket of water. First, a cement mortar is made, and then crushed stone is added to it. They are used for kneading with shovels and hoes. When the volume of work is large and there is an opportunity and labor force, you can calculate the volume of the solution and order a concrete truck. The concrete is compacted during pouring to remove air bubbles. After pouring, it is covered with polyethylene for uniform adhesion. The formwork can be removed after a week.
2-3 days after the foundation is poured, a frame is welded from hollow iron bars with a thickness of 1.5-2 mm or corners, the dimensions and thickness of which depend on the length of the span. Layout and installation is done by two people using a water, laser or simple level. After installation, the welding places are painted. If wooden bars are used as guides, then during the laying of the pillars, mortgages are made in the brick for their fasteners.
The brick is placed on a cement mortar with the addition of a small amount of liquid soap to increase the elasticity of the mortar. In order to save money, they put one brick to the half, reinforcing with an iron mesh and at the same time filling the center of the pillar with an iron guide with cement. The height of the post is individual. Usually it is brought a little higher than the corrugated sheet.
The profiled sheet is attached to the guides using self-tapping screws with a rubber gasket or rivets. It is overlapped and mounted across the wave. Use a screwdriver, drill or hammer drill with an adapter attachment.
An ebb is placed on the foundation with or without brickwork. It can be made from the same material as the fence, or made individually. To protect against water and to complete the structure, a brick visor is placed on top of the pillars or an iron canopy is mounted on top of the pillars.
Finish the manufacture of the fence by installing wickets and gates, which can be varied: sliding, swing, mechanical or universal.

Design examples
