This article will talk about soundproof ceilings: about the classification, properties, field of application, about a brief installation technology of a separate type.

Soundproof ceilings are considered the most effective practical method for eliminating noise in a room. Sound insulation is achieved by reducing the power of the acoustic wave in the insulator.

We will talk about various types of acoustic ceilings, various installation options for these structures.

Types of acoustic ceilings

Sound modules are called the main component of acoustic ceilings and can be assembled in a variety of ways. According to the principle of installation, the system is divided into tension canvases, suspended ceiling structures, frame or frameless.

The frame type of acoustic built-in structures is equipped with a modular structure: the ceiling is assembled from separate solid soundproof boards … But the frame itself is assembled from ordinary slats and profiles of different geometries. The finished profile creates cells of suitable dimensions for the installation of soundproofing boards. Such the frame is usually fixed directly to the ceiling and walls, for fixing, tight gaskets are used, which dampen the sound vibration. There are no firm bonds in this system.

Frame ceilings, that is, their inner layer is formed by special sound-absorbing panels. It turns out something like a kind of sandwich, inside they have soundproofing material, for example, foam rubber. Outside, the panel is finished with a beautiful decorative coating.

To date, many different methods have been developed that allow you to position blocks within the frame. One of the well-known variations of frame ceiling structures include "Armstrong" - suspension systems, plates in this version are installed in the upper cells. In such a ceiling construction, acoustic recessed panels are usually not attached to the profiles. In the finished frame, various acoustic panels are installed, suitable for the parameters of the cells.

Soundproof frameless panel system consists of cladding materials, acoustic built-in sandwich panels. Such built-in acoustics differs from any other systems by the possible fastening of panels directly to the ceiling itself., therefore, there is no need to assemble the frame. This type of fixing is made possible by an integrated fixing element in the modules themselves.

Frameless structures are insulated with soft wool, creating a kind of airy acoustic mats. Outside, the panels are clad in 12.5mm gypsum fiber panels to give the material a high level of hardness. The panels are attached to the ceiling through a special vibration-disconnecting unit … The acoustic type of slabs is selected according to soundproof parameters.

For example, 40mm panels have shown their unique characteristics during household use. But 70 mm modules are used to dampen average noises. 120mm panels are used in fairly noisy roomssuch as concert halls and cinemas.

Stretch type acoustic ceilings are made of PVC film. Such material has incredible soundproofing qualities. The film is processed in a special way, this allows you to enhance the effect, the film is perforated with small holes or supplemented with an anti-noise layer.

A huge number of such holes prevent the penetration of sounds. The noise is slightly damped in these holes. The film is stretched using a special technology, the film is attached to the wall baguettes.

Soundproofing

Soundproofing types of plates are hard or soft, it all depends on the type of insulator used. All acoustic materials have their own characteristic qualities, different acoustic materials are used in different places.

Fiberglass Type Slabs

This material is made from an elongated fiberglass thread. This thread is laid in the same direction. The size of the fiberglass yarns allows for the production of a one-piece panel sheet in the longitudinal direction. The fibers are held together with a special polyester resin.

Fiberglass plates are moisture resistant, respectively, this material is used as sound insulation for rooms with high humidity levels. The front side as well as the back side of the coated boards. Decorative cladding is made from a special polyvinyl chloride film, it is also made from aluminum laminate and perforated sheet metal.

Acoustic waterproof panels are finished with glass felt sheet or alumina foil is used. Panel sizes start from 60x60 cm and go up to 1.2x1.2 m, while the maximum thickness of the product reaches 100 mm.

To mount acoustic fiberglass plates, use a proprietary frame or some other suspended acoustic canvases with special cells of the required size. You can fix the boards with adhesive or use screws.

Slabs made of stone wool

This insulating type of products is made from dolomite, limestone, basalt, the slab is processed using a specific technology. To achieve an increase in soundproofing qualities, perlite or clay is added to the composition of the material. Fibers are bound with gypsum, starch or latex. Panels, which contain more latex, are distinguished by high levels of water resistance; such products can be installed in rooms with high humidity.

The front surface of the slab is painted in different colors.… You can use another decoration method, for example, cover the plate with special foil paper.

In order to increase the sound insulation characteristics, a highly efficient sound-absorbing membrane is attached to the walls.

The tile material is made from quality stone wool. The thickness of the product can be up to 120 mm. The dimensions of such panels are 600x600 mm, this allows the products to be used for other acoustic structures.

Plasterboard panels

Often, for the installation of sound insulation, a perforated type of gypsum board 595x595 mm with 8.5 mm thickness is used. In this case, the front part can be decorated with various materials, the reverse side of the products is covered with a sound-absorbing layer made of non-woven material.

The soundproofing characteristics of drywall are given by existing holes, which occupy up to 15% of the total square.

Perforated drywall is easier to suppress the low-frequency type of waves. The echo generated is reduced, while the audibility in the room remains excellent. Sounds spread evenly.

Usually, perforated drywall is used in rooms with a moisture content of up to 95%. Plasterboard panels are installed in a high-quality system, or various frame ceiling structures with cells corresponding in size are used for this.

Installation

The sequence for installing frame sound insulation can be traced on examples of the layout of the suspended structure. Installation begins after fixing the nodes directly to the floors themselves on the ceiling. Such work should be done in conditions of 70% humidity, meanwhile the temperature should be from +15 to -30º.

First you need to check the completeness of the entire speaker system.

Usually this kit is assembled:

  • from acoustic plates, while the size of the products is 600x600 mm;
  • carrier profile, the length of which is 3.7 cm;
  • longitudinal 1.2-centimeter profile;
  • transverse 6 cm profile;
  • 3-cm wall profile with tight elastic gaskets;
  • adjustable and adjustable suspensions;
  • metal profiles, where the indicator of the width of one shelf is 15 mm;
  • profile T-type and wall L-type.

The assembly of the ceiling structure takes place according to a certain principle:

  • Marking is performed to fix the wall battens. For such work, you will need to use a water level. It is necessary to draw a horizontal line under the wall profile at the smallest distance from each slab, while taking into account the equipment fixed to the ceiling.
  • The location mark of the carrier rail is applied at an interval of 1.2 meters parallel to the wall.
  • The longitudinal profile markings are applied perpendicular to the marks for the bearing rails, such a gap should be 0.6 meters.
  • The marking of the transverse profile is applied perpendicular to the longitudinal marks, while the distance between them should be 1.2 meters.

Marking is applied to place suspensions, which will be located above the bearing profile at a distance of 1.2 meters, not more than 0.6 meters from the wall. 0.6 meters rarely turns out to be performed, therefore it is recommended to arrange chess markings. In this case, the load on the installed suspensions should not be exceeded (3.5-6 kg / m²).

For more powerful panels, a reinforced type of suspensions is used

  • Special markings will allow you to accurately calculate the number of suspensions, required rails, mounting plates, it will be possible to determine the size of the modules. If necessary, cut the profile with a hacksaw.
  • The wall type of profile is fixed according to the markings with self-tapping screws at a distance of 0.5 meters.
  • According to the marking with the help of anchors, the suspensions are fixed directly to the floor panels. When making the mounting holes, it is not necessary to observe particular accuracy. A small slope is then eliminated by changing the height.
  • Further, a bearing profile is attached to the suspensions, they should be aligned in a single plane using an adjustable type of suspensions. Too long profiles are connected on the floor, and then attached to the installed hanger.

  • Next, all remaining profiles are fixed to the already mounted rails.
  • Acoustic slabs are installed directly into the cells located in the assembled frame. The slabs are raised at an angle above the false ceiling, and released horizontally to the prepared place.
  • When the panel gets stuck during installation, you cannot press on it, you can only push it from the corners. Electric wires are connected to the installed plates with lamps immediately.
  • The last plate should be supported with the palm of your hand during installation.

In the next video you will find an experiment using acoustic foam rubber.
