Drywall is one of the most popular finishing materials. When repairing premises, the walls are aligned with them, arches and ceilings of various configurations are constructed from it. But not everyone knows that furniture is made from gypsum sheets, which is not inferior to standard headsets in quality.

Do-it-yourself drywall products are most often made by people with imagination, tired of the look of stereotypical interiors. In a kitchen or living room, you can create a great setting using drywall furniture.

Features, pros and cons

So, in the kitchen it is possible to design standard furniture from gypsum plasterboard: pencil cases, wardrobes, a table, a TV niche, arches with shelves, shelves and a lot of other elements. The advantage of any drywall product is the availability and low cost of the material. They are also different.

  • Ease of installation. The boards can be fixed in a variety of ways, including glue. The main thing is to take into account the load. The products themselves are lightweight, which relieves heaviness from the floors.
  • Ease of finishing. By themselves, the panels do not create an impressive look, but they are easily painted, pasted over with wallpaper, tiled, in other words, lend themselves to any finish. If damaged or dismantled, the plasterboard fragment can be replaced without much effort.
  • Furniture made from such raw materials is completely safe. It does not emit harmful substances, is resistant to high temperatures (does not burn and does not melt), which allows you to run electric cables under or on it.

At any time, the plasterboard furniture structure can be disassembled and a new model can be designed

  • The fragility of the material. Naturally, such interior items are designed for a certain weight, which is not recommended to be exceeded.
  • The availability of raw materials is limited in rooms with high humidity. Even when using moisture resistant types, they must be additionally protected. Otherwise, soaking with regular condensation cannot be avoided.

It turns out that drywall has almost no cons. It is important to choose the right material for a particular design, and then make an unmistakable self-installation. Then there will be no problems, and the result of the work done will please.

High-quality constructions can be placed not only in the kitchen. For example, in the bathroom or living room, the built-in will look stylish. What furniture can be made of drywall? Nan cabinet made of gypsum board or shelves made of this material.

Drywall and moisture

High humidity is constantly present in the kitchen. However, for such an interior, it is not necessary to choose raw materials with a moisture-proof coating. As a rule, kitchen sets are equipped with an extractor hood, which prevents moisture from penetrating into the material.

Drywall is always finished with paint, tiles, oilcloth, washing wallpaper. Through it, moisture will not reach the base. The thickness of the panels is selected based on the functions of the product, as well as taking into account the size of the working area and the strength of the frame. Interior items made of cardboard should be as functional as possible (shelves, pencil cases). Bearing walls (arches with shelves, racks, bar racks) can be used as the basis for such structures.

How to do it yourself?

Preparation and calculation

In order for the pieces of furniture to stand correctly, it is necessary to make a flat wall plane. It is best to do this using the same raw materials from which the furniture will be made - from drywall.

Let's consider what actions need to be taken for this

  • First you need to calculate the difference in surface roughness. A flat rail is applied to the wall (perpendicular to the floor). If the gaps are less than 1 cm, then the panels can be mounted without profiles. In other cases, a wireframe is required.
  • Metal profiles are fixed along the marked lines. Jumpers are installed between them, preferably more often.
  • All communications (electrical wires, water pipes) can be hidden in the constructed frame made of metal profiles, but this must be taken care of in advance. It is also permissible (if required) to insulate the wall.
  • The gypsum cloth is fixed to the walls with self-tapping screws, which deepen into the thickness of the sheets by 1 mm. The panels must be tightly joined to each other.
  • It remains to give the walls a proper look. Putty the seams and caps from the screws. The surface must be coated in some way. Now you can start designing the required products.

Wardrobe with shelves

To make a cabinet with a conventional design, you will need some materials and tools. After that, they will be required for the construction of other items.

  • Aluminum profile for frame assembly.
  • Plasterboard sheets with a thickness of 1.2 cm. Depending on the place of application, you must choose whether to use moisture resistant or not.
  • Jigsaw or saw with disc for cutting material.
  • Drill with perforating mode.
  • Screwdriver and self-tapping screws.
  • Square, building level, tape measure.
  • Protective equipment: respirator, gloves, goggles.

It's good to have a diagram of the future product - work with it will be faster, since the dimensions do not need to be rechecked, and all the details can be done in advance.

Build process

  • First, the vertical posts from the profile are attached to the wall. Next, horizontal crossbars are attached to the floor and ceiling. A damper strip is laid under the aluminum (optional), which will act as a shock absorber, preventing vibration.
  • If the rack is not made up to the ceiling, then a strapping is constructed on top. As a result, you should get a parallelepiped-shaped frame made of aluminum components.
  • For strengthening, the entire structure is equipped with bridges (especially the side planes). Without fail, they are placed along the perimeter where the shelves are supposed to be made.
  • Places of insertion of lighting devices are marked in advance. A double frame is made for them in the necessary places. Holes are also made there for the output of wires.
  • The resulting "skeleton" is sheathed with panels. Plasterboard sheets are cut into blanks of exact dimensions, taking into account that the edges of the fragments should be located in the middle of the profile. The workpieces are screwed onto self-tapping screws using a screwdriver.

The rack can be equipped with doors, but it is better to order them ready-made. The finished product is initially putty, then decorated.

Table top

You need to take profiles of the required size. They need to be trimmed and then numbered. Holes for fasteners are made in a separate profile. The metal elements are fixed in turn to the wall according to the markings, observing the level. For this, a measuring tool is used. For the manufacture of the frame, the guides are formed from two profiles - one is embedded in the other. Jumpers located horizontally to strengthen the upper plane are also made double. The flatness of the surface is checked for each fragment of the skeleton.

The frame base must be reinforced with double struts. A pair of spacers are fixed with self-tapping screws at an equal horizontal distance. This is done by dividing the total height into 3 equal parts.

Vertical amplifiers are installed on the sides. On the top, the lintels must be positioned taking into account the placement of the sink. To do this, make a washbasin template from thick cardboard and use it to determine where the amplifiers will be mounted.

After finishing work with the frame, it is recommended to check the level of the plane one last time. It is necessary to press on the structure with a little effort. She should not stagger, but stand firmly. This ensures the reliability of the table top.

For the plane under the sink, you will need 2 identical drywall elements. They are cut out according to the size of the body. One part should be fixed to the upper surface, and the other - horizontally (below it). Next, the prepared models for the washbasin are attached to the lower and upper fragments from the gypsum board. A cavity is carefully cut out under the sink.

For the sides of the product, blanks are needed (according to the dimensions of the sheathed places). First, drywall is fixed with glue, then fastened with self-tapping screws. They are screwed in every 20 cm. From the bottom, the workpieces should not reach the floor to avoid getting wet. They are made half a centimeter shorter. The side walls are clad with panels on both sides - outside and inside. The ends are sewn up with plasterboard strips for glue and self-tapping screws.

At the end of the work, you need to grind all the corners of the product with sandpaper, then treat the structure with a primer and finish.

Bar counter

There is nothing difficult in making a rack. The only difficulty can arise if it is planned with a curved surface. But it's easy to make from drywall.

Image

  • The wall is designed in the same way as for a cabinet with shelves. The design itself is low, so there is no need for reinforcing bridges in the frame.
  • It is necessary to bend the main rails of the skeleton to duplicate the desired configuration. One part is attached to the floor, and the second is screwed onto the racks as a top strapping.
  • The metal is easy to deform, but all the same, slots are made on the profile to bend the desired arc. With drywall, this process is much more difficult, since it is fragile and can break.
  • To prevent this from happening, it is necessary to perform the following actions: use a needle roller to walk along the back side of the part, then wet it with a wet sponge. The moistened workpiece acquires elasticity - it can be bent in any direction.

  • After giving the desired shape, the strip is placed in the prepared holders and left for 20 minutes. The holders are bars fixed on a plane. The workpiece installed between them will perfectly acquire the required radius. When the part is dry, it is screwed to the frame.
  • At the end, it remains to place the countertop. Next, you need to putty the finished bar counter, make the final finish. If you approach this purposefully, then there is nothing complicated about it. The product is equipped with sliding mechanisms for opening doors.

Kitchen arch

Such a structure will not only become part of the design idea, but it will also be a useful and functional area of the kitchen space. The idea of a vault in a wall made of gypsum plasterboard with shelves is simple. With a small room, it is more rational to place the arch in the cavity of the wall. This will save usable floor space. The vault will fit not only a flower pot, but also a TV and various accessories.

Of course, it is easier to bring it to life at the construction stage, but if the plasterboard partition has already been mounted, then you have to work hard.

Image
Image
Image
Image
  • The layout of the planned configuration is made on the wall. She can be with the most unusual curves.
  • A fragment is cut along the line if a through niche is provided. This should be done on both sides of the wall.
  • Next, a blind option will be considered - having removed the cut out fragment, it is necessary to cut off the exposed profiles along the contour and remove them.
  • Bend the profiles and insert into the voids formed at the ends of the niches, fix them with self-tapping screws. Also, further you need to bend the plaster strips, sheathe the perimeter of the arch. Finish, having previously putty the cavity.

You can equip such a niche with various shelves. Their location can only be determined by the imagination of the owner. This process can be done in any room. They also offer options with shelves, a false fireplace, TV niches and other similar furniture.
