When we say "tulle", we mean the fabric from which light curtains for windows are sewn, the main function of which is to close a person from those who are outside and, meanwhile, provide a good view of those who are inside. Tulle was invented in France for the king's bride, who wanted to hide her face from guests. Initially, it was made by hand and only from natural silk and cotton threads.

Nowadays, tulle is produced on an industrial scale and polyester can be used for the base. Modern fashion allows for the presence of tulle made of dense, rigid fabric, for example, organza, on the windows. There are many variations on how to organically fit organza into the design of the room.

What is the difference?

Now the concept of "tulle" includes all transparent curtains, which are also called "day curtains", including organza and veil. Therefore, its differences from tulle can be called mythical - this is its kind. By the way, the word "tulle" is masculine.

Organza is usually made from natural fabrics - silk and cotton, but now you can often find synthetic additives - polyester. Two fibers of the fabric are twisted together, forming a dense fabric that keeps its shape well. Organza tulle can be matte and glossy, as well as with a pattern applied by printing, etching and even embroidery.

Benefits

According to a number of characteristics, organza is better than other fabrics for creating a modern window design:

  • this fabric is denser and stiffer than standard tulle, therefore, its service life is not limited to a couple of years, but easily reaches 8 or even 10 years without losing its appearance;
  • organza can be easily combined with almost all fabricsthat are used for sewing heavy night curtains;
  • about rganza is transparent, airy and, despite its high density, it transmits a lot of light;
  • one of the differences from cheap fabric for windows, organza has a high light-resistance. The tulle does not fade from it even on the south side;
  • organza is easy to care for, is washed not only by hand, but also in a machine, any dirt is washed from it.

However, with all the advantages, this fabric also has its disadvantages:

  • high cost of fabric. A complex technological process is used in the manufacture, which affects the price increase;
  • air does not pass through this fabric, therefore, it is better to make such curtains from two cuts in order to regularly move apart for ventilation;
  • organza with the addition of polyester instead of silk does not form small folds on the windows, therefore, it is not recommended to use this material for small windows in small rooms from a design point of view;
  • clues easily remain on the fabric, therefore, if there is a network of pets or small children in the house, then it is not recommended to hang such tulle on the windows.

Trendy colors

This season, one-color tulle of natural natural colors is especially relevant: green, ocher, golden, yellow, blue. Squeak of fashion - combining two colors beautifully. If you do not know how to correctly combine the color specifically for your interior, choose white as the second tone. Such curtains will look great in high-tech, Scandinavian and ethnic styles.

However, be careful not to hang white tulle on the windows with white walls. There is a risk of "flying through" with a shade, and then one thing will look dirty.

Options with embroidery, printing

Organza with floral embroidery looks absolutely stunning on the windows. These curtains will perfectly fit into a romantic style or Provence. As a rule, a solid white is chosen as a background, on which a delicate pattern in the form of flowers is applied. In this case, the pattern is large, medium and small. The larger the pattern, the larger the window should be.

Organza with printed design and golden ornament has its own characteristics. Despite the strength of acrylic paint, it requires a friction-free hand wash. Ironing such curtains is not recommended, the damp tulle is hung on the window and smoothed out under its own weight.

How to choose?

You can choose fabric for curtains based on a variety of aspects. One of them is the purpose of the premises.

  • For bedroom curtains of soft colors with good air throughput are selected. If you prefer twilight, then you can stop at a burgundy, blue, pale green tulle.
  • Organza kitchen - an ideal fabric, since it does not accumulate dust on its fibers, is easily washed, lasts a long time and does not fade in the sun.
  • For children's room you can also choose organza (but with regular curtains opening during the morning airing), its advantage is the same as for the kitchen - it can be easily washed. For older children, you can choose cotton curtains.

A semi-organza, or micro veil, is a light, soft, transparent fabric that looks like silk and drapes easily. It is ideal for windows where soft, fine creases are required.

How to hem?

Hemming curtains and tulle requires scissors, thread, a sewing machine and an iron. If you have ceilings of the same height over the entire area of the room, then you can align the lower edge of the tulle curtains by pulling out one horizontal thread, and then cut the fabric along this landmark with scissors.

Since tulle is a sliding material that constantly warps, it is recommended to mark from the edge the length you need for hemming every 20 cm and thread a contrasting color along the marks. Along it and cut off the edge.

Threads no thicker than size 40 must be threaded into the machine. If the organza tulle is shiny, then it is better to choose threads two shades lighter. In sunlight, they will not be visible on the fabric, because a lighter tone does not stand out as much than a darker one

The needle in the machine should be sharp and thin so as not to cling to the fabric.

Before you put the machine on the table, you need to cover it with a sheet. On cotton, the tulle curtain will not slip and warp, it will be much easier to sew

Before hemming, adjust the sewing machine stitch on the unwanted piece of fabric. If the fabric is very thin and clings to the typewriter, hem it on tissue paper or tracing paper. After the end of the work, it is torn off

  • Work starts from the side edges, bending them by 1-2 cm and ironing, they are sewn at a distance of 1-2 mm from the inner edge of the hem.
  • If the curtains have lace, scallops at the bottom, then the length is adjusted at the top.
  • Organza is hemmed at least 3 cm, that is, when cutting the length, you must leave 6 cm of the allowance. The veil is hemmed 2 cm, that is, 4 cm of the required length.

How to care?

Organza tulle can be washed in the washing machine in a delicatessen bag by turning off the spin mode. Carry out washing several times a year, avoiding monthly “bathing” of the fabric. If you urgently need to get rid of an unpleasant odor, it is recommended to remove the tulle and hang it in the wind for a day. From frequent washing, the fabric deteriorates and turns gray.

Low-foaming compositions are used as a detergent (it is very difficult to rinse powder particles out of tulle), and for hand washing it is best to use table salt - a tablespoon per 1 liter of water. In 2-3 hours it will dissolve all dirt on the curtains.

Rinse the curtains twice, lightly squeezing them with your hands. The first rinse in warm water, the second in cold water. On the second rinse, you can add table vinegar to give the organza a shine. After a good rinse, the water remains clear.

The tulle is dried in an upright position, smoothing under its own weight.

Interior options

This season, special emphasis should be placed on the drapery of the window shade: if the canvas is solid and without grabs, then there will be a lot of folds. For draping a 6-7-meter organza tulle, it is not recommended to collect the top tape to the size of the window opening. In this case, only the upper part will be draped, and the lower one will become a "stake". It is better to distribute such tulle on a large number of hooks and drape it by hand
