High-quality lighting of the room allows you to give it a special charm, as well as highlight certain areas. For this, many different lighting devices are used. Today, wall spots are becoming especially popular. They are distinguished by their unique design and excellent technical characteristics.
The word "spot" has English roots and is translated as "spot". Technically, it is a luminaire that creates a directional beam of light. This allows only a small area of the interior to be illuminated. A feature of this design is the presence of a swivel mechanism that can rotate in several planes. In this way, the direction of the light beam can be changed if necessary.
Almost all models are equipped with special dimmers that allow you to adjust the brightness of the light. These devices are universal. They can be both household (used in residential premises) and outdoor. Almost all models consist of several basic elements:
Bracket. This mechanism provides the ability to rotate the luminaire, and it is also a frame with which the system is attached to the wall. The shape of the bracket is not standardized and can vary from round to complex arcuate
The frame into which the lamp is screwed. Almost all of them are made of metal and can have various shapes
Advantages and disadvantages
Spots are unique lighting fixtures that are used by many designers when planning modern interiors. Wall structures of this type have several advantages:
- With the help of a lamp, you can easily illuminate a specific area of the room.
- Installation of spots is relatively simple and requires minimal knowledge and skills.
- Correctly positioned luminaires can visually enlarge the space.
- Structures are available in various designs, which allows you to choose them for almost any style of interior.
- The main material for making spots is metal, which will last a very long time.
- Modern luminaires are equipped with economical lamps. This will reduce energy costs without losing the quality characteristics of the luminous flux.
However, these products are not a universal solution and have several disadvantages:
- Luminaires are expensive compared to simpler modifications.
- It is quite difficult to achieve the optimal level of illumination using a directional light beam. Therefore, they are used as additional equipment together with spotlights and chandeliers.
Place in the interior
The design features of the spots are great for creating unique styles inside the home. Today, this type of luminaire is used in the arrangement of various residential areas:
Living room. Here, using spots, they emphasize certain areas of the room. This allows the guests of the house to focus on them
Study. The main purpose of wall spots here is room zoning
Kitchen. There are no restrictions on the use of spots at all. With their help, you can organize high-quality illumination of certain areas. This is important if you spend a lot of time in the kitchen, constantly changing your location in the room
Bedroom. A great opportunity to create a pleasant mood. The spots can be used both as main lights and as a reading light while relaxing
Bathroom. Only waterproof lamps that can withstand high humidity should be used in this room. With their help, you can also change the work area depending on your actions and preferences
But the universal purpose of spots is their use at exhibitions. With the help of wall lamps, you can organize high-quality illumination of the products on display, which are located at the stands. In this case, each individual element can be supplemented with a switch, which gives additional possibilities. As for the design, the spots are available in various colors.
On the market you can find both classic metallic models and products that imitate bronze.
Depending on the technical characteristics, spots can be divided into several types:
Embedded. Products of this type are placed inside a hollow frame. Wall-mounted models of this type are quite rare, but still they can be found in everyday life
Overhead. Versatile structures consisting of a rigid metal frame that is fixed to the wall. Such models are the most common and practical. Installation is carried out using brackets, which allows you to change the angle of the frame
Combined. Spots of this type consist of several spotlights, which are combined in one housing. A similar system is attached to a special frame. Installation is carried out using various fastening systems
Depending on the number of lamps, spots can be divided into single and multi-lamp. The latter type of construction is relatively rare. Single-lamp models are more ergonomic and allow better adjustment of their position.
In modern spots, several types of lighting devices are used, which have unique features:
Incandescent lamps. Spots with such devices are not expensive. The modern market presents many modifications that are characterized by unpretentiousness. Incandescent lamps are excellent at tolerating high humidity and high temperatures. Among the design flaws, one can single out the presence of a reflector, which is designed to remove heat and reflect light. It complicates the whole design a little. In this case, the lamp frame heats up quickly, which does not allow installing it near flammable materials
Another disadvantage of such lighting is the limited range of the light spectrum. Light everywhere has a yellowish tint.
Halogen lamps. The illumination obtained with such systems is distinguished by high brightness. In this case, the spectrum of light is practically similar to the solar flux. The service life of a halogen lamp can be up to 12 thousand hours. But the structure breaks down very quickly when it works with sudden changes in temperature. This type of lamp consumes much less electricity than the previous type
The tungsten filament gets very hot during operation, therefore, such lamps should not be handled.
LEDs. The most modern devices that are economical and durable. The mechanism is practically independent of on-off cycles, like its previous counterparts. At the same time, the brightness of the lamps is slightly less than that of the halogen. But today there are modifications in which these characteristics are significantly improved
The installation process for wall spots can be described in several sequential steps:
- First of all, a cable is laid to the place of the future fixing of the spot. The characteristics of the wiring are selected in accordance with the technical parameters of the device. It is advisable to use a separate branch for this, which will be connected directly to the junction box.
- At this stage, the wiring is connected to the fixtures. A parallel circuit is often used here.
- The process ends with fixing the lamps to the wall. For this, the brackets are fixed to the base using special fasteners. After completion, the performance of the entire system is checked.
