Textile products are the embodiment of coziness and comfort, and they come in completely different sizes, colors, shapes and even types. Among them, carpet runners cannot be ignored.

What it is?
A carpet is not just an interior item that protects the floor surface from dirt and dust, but also an invariable symbol of comfort. But if the carpet is a canvas with an unfinished pattern (not decorated, not limited on the sides), then the carpet pattern is usually finished. If you attach a second one to one track, you will get a mirror image of the first.
Perhaps, this type of textile gained immense popularity after the whole world got acquainted with the famous red carpet. A lot of time has passed since that moment, but many rooms are still decorated with just such long carpet tracks or their counterparts in other colors, sizes or made of other materials.

A carpet runner is a truly versatile interior detail that can not only decorate a room, but also warm your feet on cold autumn and winter evenings.

According to the types of weaving, the tracks are divided into several options:
Tufted rugs
Tufted carpets are long strands pulled through a backing and looped into a loop with a crochet hook. This is a very durable type of weaving, therefore, similar carpet paths can be used in places with high traffic, but most often they are kept for special occasions. Additionally, they are divided into:
Berbers, in the case of which the loops are located crosswise at different levels, heights and depths, which allows you to create three-dimensional figures and patterns on the surface of the carpet. Such carpets turn out to be amazingly beautiful and interesting, moreover, they have good wear resistance, do not wrinkle or tear

Medium-nap. Their hinges are also located at different heights, but parallel to each other. The pattern is also textured. A special case of medium-pile carpet can be called a velor covering, which has a low split pile, similar to the touch of velvet

High-nap. There are several options for such weaves, for example, with a hidden loop - there are cut and uncut loops here, which allows you to create a volumetric depressed pattern

Another option for a volumetric surface is with the same level of loops and pilewhen the uncut buttonhole is pulled up to the pile level. High-pile carpet tracks with only carved loops intersecting are tracks for woven carpet. In the case of additional quilting, you can get a carpet with patterns from a wide variety of threads, since the base is quilted with them additionally

- Frize - a very popular coating, made of twisted threads, heat-fixed, which makes the product incredibly strong, wrinkle-resistant and abrasion-resistant.
- Saxony - a subspecies of frieze, in the case of which an even higher twisted pile is used, located vertically.
- The coating with the highest and softest pile can be called without a doubt terry coveringwhich wrinkles easily and is not entirely practical.

Needle-punched coatings
The pile threads in them are laid on the base and the next step is driven into it with needles. As a rule, carpets are additionally reinforced with a thin rubber base, which increases their wear resistance and has anti-slip properties. Needle-punched carpets are cheaper than tufted carpets, but also have slightly reduced performance; most often they are laid in rooms with high traffic.

Fabric coverings
Fabric coverings have long been considered the most beautiful, elite, chic and expensive, their durability corresponds to the price.
They are additionally divided into several types:
- Pile. The oldest variant comes from Persia. The pile can be short, medium or long.
- Lint-free. They look like ordinary fabric without lint, do not differ in any special chic, but amazingly practical - they are very easy to clean, they do not wrinkle even under the heaviest furniture. In another way, lint-free tracks are called rugs, carpets.

Forms
As a rule, many people think of a long and narrow rectangular carpet stretching almost to the horizon when the phrase "carpet runner" appears in their heads. Of course, the narrow carpet runner is a classic, but there are other shapes and lengths as well.
Carpets are most often produced in strictly geometric shapes - a circle, an oval, a square and a rectangle. However, in the collections of some interior designers, you can find rugs of original shapes - from a rhombus to shapes carved on the surface of textiles, although it will no longer be possible to call them a carpet with certainty.

Dimensions (edit)
In order to choose a carpet in relation to the size of the room, you need to know only two things for each of them - the width and length of the room and the width and length of the carpet itself.
So, for example, the width of the carpet should be 20-40 cm less than the width of the passage in which you lay it. That is, there should be a free space of 10-20 cm on the sides. This is done for aesthetic reasons, and it will be much more convenient to wash the floor this way. For stairs and balconies, the standard carpet width varies between 50-70 cm without indentation.
The most common carpet runner sizes range from 70 centimeters to 4 meters wide and 3 to 30 meters long. At the same time, the combinations of these two parameters can be completely different - you can find both a 70 cm by 3 m carpet and 15 cm by 10 m.

Materials (edit)
In the case of carpets, two types of cover are always used - the base material and the pile material. They may or may not be the same. The most popular base options are:
- Vinyl. Durable material, durable and practical, it is easy to clean and can be used in high traffic areas.
- Artificial felt. It is made of polypropylene, has high heat and sound insulation performance, does not slip. However, it is better to lay carpets with such a surface in rooms with low traffic.
- Natural jute. Environmental, but not the most practical and durable material.
- Synthetic jute. More practical than its natural counterpart, it does not abrade, but is susceptible to peeling due to exposure to moisture and glides on the floor. As a result, it is also used only in residential buildings.

As for the threads, the choice here is slightly larger, and it is more difficult to decide on them. Fiber can be divided into two groups - artificial and natural.
Artificial threads fade very easily, therefore, for rooms on the south side or near a window, it is better not to lay them. Such coatings keep even their volumetric shape well, do not shrink, they are moisture-proof and easy to clean. It is very convenient that tracks made of unnatural materials can be bent or folded, it will not get any worse for them.
Viscose carpets attract the attention of lovers of synthetic safe materials. They shine perfectly in the sun, light. Practical characteristics - do not cause allergies, durable, do not change color, do not electrify and soft to the touch. However, they are not so easy to care for, they slip and succumb to the destructive influence of moisture, so you should not buy them for the kitchen or bathroom. Viscose is a product of wood processing, completely environmentally friendly, sometimes silk or wool is added to it.

Sometimes for decoration of premises on the street or in the courtyard, paths "grass" are used. They can be made of soft and wear-resistant artificial materials, or plastic (which, of course, is only appropriate for decoration).
Silk, wool and cotton should be distinguished from natural materials. They are all perfect for sunny rooms - they will not fade, they will serve you for many decades. Wool retains heat well and is suitable for cold, dry rooms. Woolen and semi-woolen carpets can be created using a loom or knitted - in this case, the rug is considered handmade and is more expensive. The woolen carpet runner can be vacuum cleaned, which greatly facilitates maintenance, and therefore, in principle, you can put it even in the hallway.

Colors and prints
In fact, the palette of carpets is huge - in various stores in your city you can find black, white, burgundy and even bright green and blue tones. This is because the materials are very easy to paint and most of them do not fade over the years.

Very often you can find paths with natural prints - with lilies, daisies, patterns in the form of interweaving of any stems or leaves. It looks especially authentic in combination with long or medium pile and discreet colors.
Special mention is made of prints for rugs in children's rooms. Where, where, but here the choice is simply huge - from classic animals and fairies to Winnie the Pooh, Mickey Mouse and Transformers, various superheroes for boys and princesses for girls. Such carpets can really be considered a work of art - after all, the faces and the smallest details of the picture on them are made with jewelry precision.

Fashion trends
Recently, minimalistic plain rectangular carpet runners have gained immense popularity. It is a timeless classic, perfect for any interior, be it a huge banquet hall or a staircase in your country house.
It is also impossible not to mention the growing popularity of Provence-style paths, personifying a typical French house on the outskirts. These are rugs of any size and any length in delicate colors, frayed or even slightly torn, self-aged, possibly with noticeable seams - in general, with all their appearance they speak of negligence and simplicity. They really look like rustic homespun rugs.

Choosing for different rooms in the house
Carpet runners are a universal type of covering. Due to their various shapes, sizes and colors, they can be placed in any room.
So, for example, in the case of a hallway, stair steps or any other room with high traffic, we advise you to choose a carpet runner with a short pile (up to 1.5 cm) or none at all - you will have to wash it often, so it should also not fade or crumble, be heavy.

Look for vinyl-based tracks with a lint-free or medium-pile finish. In this case, synthetic materials are preferable.
But in the case of a bedroom or living room, you can really use all the fantasy. Depending on the interior of the room, you can choose either a terry or a needle-punched rug of any color and texture. You can purchase a path made of natural materials for your bedroom, since this room is with little traffic, and you will not have to wash the product often. Woolen tracks keep warm well, especially for products with medium or high pile. They are soft to the touch and give a cozy feeling.

For a children's bedroom, choosing a rug will be a little more difficult. On the one hand, there are a lot of designs and colors for children's carpets, each parent or even the child himself can find something for himself, but you need to be careful with the material. So, for example, if a child is allergic to some kind of fabric or wool, then it is naturally not worth taking a track, which includes at least a little of this material.

Look for jute flooring and oval or round short pile rugs with felt backing.
For the bathroom and kitchen, you will need a walkway that is moisture-resistant and odor-free. It should be made of synthetics, have a rubberized base in order to reduce the risk of mold and mildew. Better to opt for needle-punched coatings. In no case should it slide and roll.

Beautiful coatings in a modern interior
Choosing and buying a carpet is half the battle, you still need to be able to arrange it correctly. Your own innate sense of taste, a person hired for money - a designer, or the examples below can help you with this.
This is an example of the correct placement of the carpet on a staircase. Note that it is not necessary for the rug to cover the entire width of the staircase. It is enough that it only covers the middle.

An interesting carpet runner in provence, placed in the interior of an ordinary modern kitchen. It gives it tenderness and lightness, and although it does not attract attention at first glance, it is an important part, a detail that makes the room feel cozy. Notice also how soft it is - for sure it is very pleasant to walk on it.

In this case, the carpet is the accent for the corridor. And it is very competent that the accent here is precisely the rug, and not the walls or any furniture that loads the walls. The print visually relieves the space, gives it lightness and, despite not the most muted shade, the interior immediately becomes lively.

Here is a wonderful use of carpet runners in the bedroom. Since the legs by the bed are heavy, if there were a full-fledged carpet that takes up space under the bed in place of the tracks, there would be traces on it, which would lead to its early replacement. However, this situation will not happen if you use several (three, as here) paths and just surround the bed with them around the perimeter. And it looks great, and practical, and pleasant to the feet.
