The variety of floor coverings is quite large, but completely new types of materials are added from time to time. Relatively recently, such an original solution as engineering parquet has appeared. It is important for any consumer to know what he is and how it is used.

Features of the

Engineering parquet of the simplest type consists of two layers connected with a special type of glue. Above is a tree, almost always of elite species, the thickness is from 0.4 to 0.65 cm. Below is 1.2-1.6 cm of plywood of the "FC" brand. In a more complex (three-layer) version, dense wood is used both above and below, and the central part of the parquet is made of glued coniferous bars. The direction of the fibers in the middle is perpendicular to their direction on the surface. In most cases, tongue-and-groove locks are used, which greatly simplify and speed up the layout.

Both types of engineered parquet are expensive materials of the highest quality category. Rival alternatives are solid parquet, block parquet, three-layer parquet product. Subject to the correct laying technology and operating rules, the risk of breakage (destruction) of individual boards is close to zero.

Advantages and disadvantages

The engineering board is made using toxic adhesives, which means that its environmental and sanitary safety is a big question. Laying such a covering, however, is much cheaper than using block parquet, especially with complex patterns or when choosing planks of various colors. It is also important to take into account the fact that engineering parquet is inferior in strength to a high-quality solid massif due to the use of soft layers.

You should not rely on reviews, because there is simply no real experience in using an engineering board.

Styling

You should not be afraid of low durability, especially since in the modern world it is unlikely that you will have to live in one place for many years. However, it is important to know how to use the engineered board correctly. Now there are three main options for its use:

  • on a substrate;
  • over concrete;
  • on plywood.

A soft backing made of polyethylene foam, cellulose mats and similar materials is very easy to create. But this is a risky decision because the slightest difference in humidity can provoke swelling, bending of the board … Most often, this problem occurs at the border of the floor and walls.

It is possible to put engineering parquet on an adhesive screed only if the base is perfectly flat.

Please note that only high quality concrete should be used, as the entire load of the finishing layer will be transferred to it.

The concrete needs to be primed with a primer (previously it should be cleanly swept out, you can use a vacuum cleaner), and then the board is placed on glue of two components (the main one is polyurethane). Please note that this glue should be applied only to the base, not to the board itself.

To make the coating even, notched trowels are used; at least a slight gap is certainly provided around the perimeter.

The best way is to lay engineered flooring on waterproof plywood, as this automatically solves the problem of leveling the subfloor. Plywood blocks - squares of ¼ of the sheet, staggered with a mandatory offset of the seams. They are held on the surface by glue; for reliability, dowel screws are additionally used. In order, if necessary, to correct the consequences of thermal and humidity expansion, intervals of 0.2-0.3 cm are maintained,

The use of the coating and its promising subspecies

In the process of manufacturing engineering parquet, hardwood, for example, oak, beech, can be used. It is distinguished not only by excellent resistance to various harmful factors, but also by impressive aesthetics. Important: during the entire service period, it is possible to grind engineering parquet only twice, so strictly observe all the requirements for the operation of the coating and take care of it. We must not forget that the engineering board differs in length and width from the coatings made of solid wood. It is good because it does not lose moisture in different situations.

The modular type of engineering parquet, which is distinguished by an unusually beautiful appearance, is gaining more and more popularity. From ready-made blocks, like from a mosaic, you can construct a unique geometric ornament. At the bottom, a water-resistant wooden tile is placed, which is usually used when arranging garden paths. The main part of the coating is made of especially durable types of solid wood, they are carefully selected for aesthetic properties. Subsequently, the wood is glued together in the form of a bar. Adhesive mounting allows you to increase the sound insulation of the flooring when walking.

Any engineering board is not susceptible to deformation, therefore it can be safely laid on top of a warm floor … It will take more time and money to install engineered parquet than when using a conventional parquet board. The installation procedure is complex, and without the help of professionals, it can be difficult to complete it properly. AND the already installed coating cannot be dismantled … Of course, it can be disassembled, but this will damage the blocks. Therefore, you should approach the choice of the appearance of such a floor covering as carefully as possible, do not buy something that you may stop liking soon.

The engineering board is allowed to be used both in living rooms and in office premises. It fade little in the sun, and after high-quality grinding and coating with a layer of mastic, it instantly acquires its original beauty. For exact information about the use of the coating, about the nuances of its installation and prices, check directly with the sellers, since the parameters vary depending on the manufacturer.
