Tiles and ceramic tiles are quite familiar to consumers, but manufacturers make every effort to diversify their products. One of the newest proposals is the imitation of a metal surface. This solution is very popular among designers. Let's take a closer look at a similar finishing material.
Features of the
Modern technologies make it possible to make metal-like tiles very interesting and original in appearance. There are imitations of steel and copper, aluminum and gold, as well as chrome-plated surfaces.
It is preferable to use such coatings in high-tech, minimalism, industrial and loft style furnishings, and experienced designers can introduce them into retro and vintage interiors.
A well thought-out design makes it possible to use such a coating both in public places and in most rooms of a residential building. The design of tiles that imitate metal can be shocking, and also often have very original textures.
The use of the latest developments allows to ensure the highest strength of metal tiles, as well as its resistance to wear. The handling of such materials is very simple - unlike real metal, they never get covered with rusty spots or streaks, and also do not have the nasty aroma inherent in iron.
Temperature drops, high humidity and even the effect of ultraviolet radiation are not terrible for metal tiles. The pleasant appearance of such products remains for many years.
The main thing is not to expose the tiles to the action of abrasive particles, which will quickly damage even the hardest surface.
Models and manufacturing methods
The "metal" surface is made very different:
- volumetric (three-dimensional);
There are three main methods that create metal simulations:
- duplication of its structure;
- applying a thin metal layer over a simple tile;
- metal tiles with additional effects.
The first type can reproduce the external nuances of metal so accurately that only touching it allows you to be convinced of the opposite. Some manufacturers spray stainless steel or precious metals onto porcelain stoneware.
The group with a metal layer that creates an interesting visual effect includes products with imitations:
- patinated copper;
- blackened silver;
- rusty steel;
- aged bronze or gold.
The third manufacturing method is a compromise. With him, spots of metal are applied to ceramic tiles of a familiar look, or even a thoughtful ornament is made from its inclusions. Individual selections can have a shiny, silver background and an image above it.
Where and how is this coating used?
The metallized surface is versatile. It will look good both at the entrance to the dwelling and on the facade. In bathrooms, tiles can create a unique accent. The same effect will be in the living room or hallway.
Imitation of smooth polished metals is usually glazed. Most often, such materials are applied to the walls.
If you choose porcelain stoneware with a rust effect, the surface may be grainy. Such material is also appropriate on the floor.
When tiles combine gloss and matte finishes, you can create the feeling of smooth and polished steel, aluminum, copper.Recommended for light traffic areas such as bathrooms, living rooms and bedrooms. Often, a gold finish is used, especially if the owners seek to give the interior a rich appearance. Such a surface can be imitated by glazed ceramics, or the thinnest layer of sprayed metal on the tiles.
In the setting hi-tech or minimalism metal tiles are used as a key motif. It combines well with furniture made from modern materials.
If the room is complete in old and classic formats, imitation of bronze or rusty steel is preferable. A rough surface can be easily combined with a brick or tiles that reproduce its appearance, or with textured plasters. The bold, rich colors provide an attractive contrast to light-colored cabinets and tables, as well as white and light gray finishing materials.
Metal-effect tiles can also harmoniously fit into an eco-friendly design, especially if it is a terracotta or charcoal finish. When such palettes are dominant, it is recommended to introduce the same textured interior details as an addition.
Decorative tiles for metal will look attractive in the interior only in one case - when they have been carefully selected, having familiarized themselves with all their characteristics.
In humid rooms, do not use a metallic finish with microscopic pores. It easily absorbs water and foreign odors. In hallways and living rooms, where a lot of people walk, it is worth placing tiles of at least 4 class of mechanical resistance. In the bathroom and kitchen, attention should be paid to the level of slip (the lower the better).
A glossy finish is preferable in a small space, and a matte finish is preferred where plaque, dirt and various streaks will often occur.
It should also be noted that:
- most often, it is recommended to use calm colors for the base;
- bright details should be reserved for expressive accents;
- with a combination of light and dark shades, it is better to make an advantage in favor of the former;
- a light tone is able to push the boundaries of the room;
- black, brown colors help to bring them together;
- the difference between artificial and natural lighting cannot be ignored when choosing a color, as it can radically change perception.
Beautiful design solutions
Products in the "copper haze" format look very original and attractive, especially when a lighter plane is placed on top, and a moderately gray one below. Such a solution will look good against the background of wooden furniture in a classic interior,
The niche (recess), covered with small tiles with a mirror effect, turns out to be a bright and expressive accent in the middle of the darker walls. Such a design move requires careful selection of the overhead light in the recess.
If you trim a significant part of the wall with the same coating and further emphasize the chosen theme using shiny accessories, you get a completely attractive setting. The white surfaces around the sink can be easily diluted with metallized tiles, which seem to be covered with a huge amount of glitter.
In the selection of spectacular metal tiles, it is very important to be guided by your own taste and the recommendations of the designers. Only then will the created composition look perfect.
