Duplex plasterboard ceilings play a special role in modern interiors. They not only give the room a beautiful look, hide the unevenness of the coatings, but also allow the rooms to be zoned in an original way. Such designs are easy to install and are ideal for any interior style. In addition, the design of bunk ceilings can be created independently, choosing interesting and unusual ideas for this.
Features of the
A two-level plasterboard ceiling is a fashionable design that can be supplemented with lighting and combined with various finishing materials. With the right color combination, bunk ceilings can visually change the space, making it wider or narrower.
The main advantages of these designs include the following:
- a huge selection of designs;
- affordable price;
- quick installation;
- masking of building defects on the ceiling.
A suspended ceiling can be installed not only in large, but also in small rooms, placing the main level of the structure at a distance of 3-7 cm from the covering slab. The complexity of the shapes and colors of the ceiling should depend on the functional purpose of the rooms. For example, for the kitchen, it is recommended to choose light shades and combine them with colored inserts. Thus, it will be possible to originally separate the dining room from the cooking area. At the same time, it is better to place spotlights above the working area, and you can hang a chandelier above the dining room.
As for the hall and the bedroom, it is best to make a classic version of the ceiling in them and decorate it around the perimeter with a diode tape. An unusual solution would be to decorate such a structure with an imitation of the starry sky. For children's rooms, you can choose simple two-level ceilings or complement them with complex geometric shapes.
Designs with a photo print and painting also look beautiful in children.
The main feature of two-tiered ceilings is that their installation requires preliminary drawing up of a structure diagram, in the creation of which some factors are taken into account.
- Room height. Typically, the suspension system takes up 10 cm of the ceiling height. To save space, you can make the second tier even.
- Humidity level. If there is high humidity in the room, then drywall sheets must be treated with special mixtures. This is especially true for the ceilings of the kitchen and bathroom.
- Lighting. The location of fixtures and lamps must be thought out even before the start of installation work. Thanks to the light sources, you can achieve a beautiful effect in the interior.
- Construction form. A ceiling with a double configuration should be in harmony with the overall appearance of the room. In some rooms, he may have straight lines, while in others he will surprise with unusual patterns and shapes.
The installation of any decorative structure provides for the preparation of the base, and two-level plasterboard ceilings are no exception. First, you should set the required level of humidity in the room and warm it up well. Since ordinary drywall is "afraid" of dampness, it is recommended to purchase sheets that have undergone special processing for rooms with high humidity. You can also coat the material with a protective primer.
Then an assessment is made of the condition of the tiled surface. If the coating has significant irregularities in excess of 5 cm, they must be corrected.
In addition, the structure of the plaster should be checked, it should adhere well and not crumble. If the old coating peels off, a mounting mesh is applied to it and finished with a finishing plaster. The plaster, which cannot be restored, is dismantled, after which the surface of the ceiling is thoroughly cleaned, primed and dried. In this case, it is advisable to use a deep penetration primer.
To save money, you do not need to clear. It is permissible to fasten structural details to the floor after cleaning it from the old plaster.
Drawing up a diagram and starting work
A two-level plasterboard ceiling is considered a worthy decoration of any interior, but in order for it to harmoniously combine with the design of the room and fit in its size, you need to draw up an accurate design diagram. To do this, a drawing should be made on a sheet of paper. It indicates the location of the levels, lighting devices and all communications. You can independently create a project of any complexity.
After the scheme is ready, and all the details of the installation are thought out, it is worth starting to perform the work directly. As a rule, at the initial stage, it is determined in what way the ceiling will be mounted. Many craftsmen first prepare the first level of the structure, install it, and only then they are engaged in the installation of the second tier. If the second level has complex shapes, then first of all they install it, and then fix the main tier.
The next step will be the layout of the room. It is important to correctly determine the height of the room. This should be done with the help of special tools, and not "by eye". Initially, the center point is determined, then diagonals are drawn from it along the entire perimeter. Then the two shortest walls are selected and another additional line is drawn. In the event that there are inaccuracies in the markings, they must be eliminated, otherwise the structure will be installed unevenly, and the appearance of the entire finish will be damaged.
When the markings are applied, you can make a strip in the center of the ceiling that will connect the main points of the walls and create a straight line along the entire room. A similar procedure is carried out with long walls. Next, you need to adjust the dimensions of the structure indicated in the diagram to the drawn lines. To simplify installation, it is recommended to make a grid around the entire perimeter of the ceiling, consisting of small squares with a side of 60 cm A laser projector will help to facilitate the layout of the room. To do this, he is placed in the center of the room and the corresponding drawings are made.
This tool will save you from tedious calculations and help you instantly calculate inaccuracies.
Installation of a two-level plasterboard ceiling with lighting begins only after careful preparation of the base and the selection of the necessary tools. It is also necessary to calculate the amount of drywall in order to exclude unnecessary financial costs. As a rule, the number of sheets depends on the size of the room and its design.
For work, you will need the following materials
- Guide profile. For the ceiling, U-profiles with dimensions of 27 x 28 cm are used.
- Longitudinal profile, it is also called C-profile. For a two-tier structure, you need to choose products with parameters 60 by 27 cm.
- Clamps. They are used to fasten the frame.
- Self-tapping screws and press washers. It is recommended to choose products with dimensions 3.5 x 9 or 3.5 x 11 mm.
- Anchor dowels.
Installation should be carried out strictly according to the drawn up diagrams and drawings. First, the guide profiles are attached. In case they need to be given a curved shape, cuts are made on two or three walls of the profile and form the desired look. To obtain a convex shape, the profiles are cut in a V-shape.
A ready-made marking should be placed under the guide profiles, which will allow the longitudinal parts of the structure to be evenly fixed.The distance between the axes should not exceed 40 cm. The axes are located along the perpendicular marking lines. Suspensions are attached to them, which are used for mounting the second tier.
A step of 60 cm is made between the suspensions.
After the frame of the first level is fixed, you can first see the "rough" pattern and shape of the future ceiling. The next step will be the installation of the second tier. To do this, take a longitudinal profile, cut small pieces of 10 cm from it and attach them to the base. The number of such profiles depends on the depth of the ceiling.
Each cut off profile is fixed with self-tapping screws to the axis, according to the design diagram. Then you can start attaching drywall, taking into account the location of communications and lamps. In two-level ceilings, the electrical wiring is located deep in the ceiling, so it is invisible and does not spoil the look of the decoration. First, the horizontal surface of the ceiling is sheathed, and then patterns and geometric shapes are formed.
Curly details are cut out from cardboard templates and shaped into their curved shapes. To do this, prepare the required element, roll it with a needle roller and spray it with water until drops appear on the surface. The drywall part should be soaked for an hour, after which any bend can be easily formed from it.
After completing the main finishing, it is necessary to beautifully arrange the gap between the frame and the wall. To do this, cut out square strips and attach them to the base with self-tapping screws along the entire contour. The result is a textured and even second tier.Before closing the second level of the ceiling, it is necessary to make holes for wiring and lamps. When all the layers are fixed and the communications are installed, it remains only to level the surface. To do this, take a reinforced mesh, put it on sheets of drywall and cover with putty.
As a finishing touch, the ceiling can be painted or wallpapered.
Backlit two-level plasterboard ceilings open up tremendous possibilities for design. They can be installed in any room, but bunk structures in the living room deserve special attention. Correctly chosen shape of the ceiling and good lighting will make this room beautiful and stylish.
As a rule, complex systems with different shapes and differences look original in living rooms. By combining several light sources at the same time, you can visually expand the room and emphasize the rest of the design details.
In living rooms, it is better to install ceilings in light shades and decorate them with wavy lines. Thus, the room will create a feeling of comfort and coziness.
The bedroom is considered a seating area, so its interior must be appropriate. It is recommended to make the ceilings in the bedroom the correct shape and avoid the presence of sharp corners in the structure. You can visually raise the height of the ceiling using two-tier concave structures.
As for the bathroom, it is characterized by high humidity, therefore, when installing plasterboard ceilings, you need to choose moisture-resistant materials. In this room, you can place classic systems or decorate the second tier with geometric shapes. To prevent the room from getting dark, the two-level ceiling should be supplemented with good lighting, using both spotlights and LED strips for this.
The ceiling is decorated in the same way in the corridor. As a rule, in apartments this room is small, so all decorative elements, including the design of ceilings, should be light and simple. Complex geometric shapes can visually reduce space and make it narrow. Therefore, for corridors, it is best to choose suspension systems with straight and smooth lines.
