Stretch ceiling takes a special place among the variety of finishing options. In a short period of time, he managed to achieve positive reviews from many consumers. To assemble a stretch ceiling, you need special tools and skills.

The baguette is used to fasten the ceiling structure to the ceiling and walls. It must support a considerable weight of the web, in this regard, the quality of its installation and the strength of the profile itself play an important role.

Features of the

A baguette (or profile) is an essential element in a ceiling structure. It secures the web. Its installation begins with securing the profile around the entire perimeter of the room. Next, they begin to stretch the ceiling sheet.

This mount has many advantages:

  • strength - the baguette is able to hold a weight of more than 20 kilograms per square meter;
  • practicality - installation takes a little time, after the end of the work there is a minimum amount of garbage;
  • the canvas can be corrected.

If necessary, the canvas is removed and installed back, the strength of the fastening of the baguette will not change from this. If you are flooded by neighbors, the canvas is removed, the water is drained and installed back.

In the production of the profile, durable plastic or aluminum alloy is used. The aluminum molding is characterized by a long service life and high strength. Manufacturers produce profiles pre-treated with powder paint. This protects the metal from corrosion. The only caveat is this profile is not suitable for uneven or hard-to-reach areas on the ceiling. Aluminum molding will fit perfectly into the interior where fabric and wood are used.

A plastic baguette is much cheaper than a metal profile. It is highly resistant to temperature changes and easy to install. The flexibility of this profile allows you to repeat the bending of any curved structure. This will make them easier to install, as there is no need to adjust to the desired size.

The profile, in turn, is subdivided into categories:

  • baguette for the wall - used to fix the tension surface of the ceiling to the wall along its entire length;
  • universal baguette - it is used to create a complex curvilinear and volumetric structure of a stretch ceiling;
  • baguette for the ceiling - used to fix the boundaries of the stretch fabric to the ceiling surface, provided that its installation to the wall is impossible.

In addition to the main types of profiles, their modifications have been developed. They are necessary for certain areas with more complex installation, special conditions for fixing them and in the presence of difficult ceiling structures.

You can also distinguish the following types of proseets or baguettes:

  • contour;
  • gapless;
  • wall, etc.

For multi-level structures, you can choose any option.

There are several nuances when installing the ceiling. Aluminum molding is good for perfectly flat walls. A plastic profile is inferior in strength to aluminum, but is lightweight and easy to correct curved walls. It has the ability to fit snugly against the wall.

It is extremely important to remember that when stretching the canvas to the ceiling, corner moldings receive a huge load. They may not withstand and the stretch ceiling will be deformed, therefore when installing a baguette in the inner corner joint, the rear wall of the profile is trimmed … Then, in the place of the cut, the baguette is bent at the required angle, thereby ensuring a snug fit to the wall.

Mount types

Baguettes are selected based on the method of fixing to the ceiling.

In hardware stores, you will come across the following types of fasteners:

  • harpoon mount for stretch PVC ceilings;
  • clip fastening for seamless fabric ceilings;
  • glazing bead fastening profile for a stretch ceiling made of fabric.

The harpoon mount is used for stretch ceilings made of PVC films. The profile in this case acquired its name in connection with the similarity to a fishing harpoon, which was used when hunting large fish. A plastic "harpoon" is fixed to the edge of the ceiling film. Further, there is adhesion between it and the harpoon-type profile. It is fastened by teeth to the walls of the profile groove. Such an attachment will provide the strength of the ceiling structure.

The harpoon baguette is made for wall and ceiling mounting. The difference lies in the specialized shelf on the baguette. In the wall profile, the shelf is in a vertical position and is fixed to the wall with dowels.

Other cases require a shelf to be fixed at right angles. In this situation, the profile is fixed to the ceiling. It is used exclusively when the tension surface is located with a minimum offset from the ceiling..

The wall profile is used when using recessed spotlights at a height of ten centimeters … The harpoon mount is made of aluminum alloy or durable plastic. Both types have the same strength, but the cost for an aluminum molding will be more expensive.

For reliable tension of the ceiling surface, fasteners are made using dowels or self-tapping screws at a distance of 15 centimeters. At the junction, the distance is reduced to 1-2 centimeters. The baguette is cut to the required size using a hacksaw for metal … If it is necessary to join several tensioning surfaces at once, a docking profile "harpoon" is used. It consists of two "harpoon" moldings with a combined wall.

With a ceiling on a fabric base, clip or glazing (otherwise, wedge-shaped) fasteners are used … With glazing bead fasteners, the profile is fixed on self-tapping screws to the surface of the walls. It is necessary to retreat from the ceiling at least one and a half centimeters. Next, insert the canvas and clamp it with a glazing bead (wedge). The tension of the canvas is adjusted manually on the ceiling, the excess material is cut off. After installation, a gap will remain in the profile, which can be decorated with a ceiling plinth.

This type of attachment is disposable. It is impossible to dismantle and pull back the canvas.

The most modern modification of the profile for a stretch fabric seamless ceiling is a baguette with clips. Such a profile is produced for a stretch ceiling with a durable plastic surface. The profile is completed with clips and mounting shelves. The clip consists of a pipe with a hole where the canvases are fixed with a spatula. In the production of the base of the clips, a hard, resilient plastic is used. The clip does an excellent job of holding heavy ceiling webs.

There are both wall and ceiling fasteners. They are fastened with dowels or self-tapping screws.

Dimensions (edit)

Profiles for the ceiling tension surface are also subdivided by size.

Each size has distinctive characteristics:

  • Visible for stretch ceiling - a translucent plastic baguette, which is about 3 centimeters wide and about 300 centimeters long. For fasteners, the harpoon method is preferred.
  • Invisible to the wall - made of plastic with a length of 250 cm. Provides a snug fit and copies the slope of the wall to which it is fixed.
  • Invisible to the ceiling - aluminum is used for manufacturing, profile length 250 cm. Fixed to the ceiling at a distance of 200 mm.

  • For the wall - made of aluminum. Length 250 centimeters, height 35 millimeters. Used for rooms with flat walls.
  • With spacers - aluminum is used in the manufacture. Length 250 cm and height 20 mm. It is used to connect several tensioning surfaces.
  • Without spacers - made of aluminum alloy. Length 250 centimeters with a distance between top and bottom of 20 millimeters. Combines two canvases.

  • For stretch ceiling surface - a baguette made of aluminum with a length of 250 cm. Suitable for creating a ceiling decorated with a starry sky.
  • For corner docking - made of aluminum, one meter long. A distinctive feature of this profile is that it bends with a radius of 70 centimeters to 5 meters. An essential element for fixing curved lines in the ceiling space.

For walls with a seamless stretch panel - made of rigid PVC in white shades. Used to fix fabric canvases

Installation

In order to glue or fix the profiles to the tension surface and to drywall, you will need profiles made of a suitable material - aluminum or plastic, which have a standard length of 250 cm. It will be more practical to drill the necessary holes in advance for further installation..

The hole in the plastic molding must be made at the edge of the profile. In the aluminum profile - on a shelf around the entire perimeter. The gap between the holes is no more than 150 millimeters. It is not necessary to deviate from this parameter, because under heavy loads, the profiles can deform in the areas of the fasteners.

Before installing the profiles, marking is done. Professional marking is performed using a special device - a laser level. If you do not own such a device, you can use the hydraulic level - this is a hose that is filled with water and equipped with transparent pipes. The process takes longer, but its accuracy is very high.

It is recommended to start the installation of profiles from the most inaccessible places in the room.… These are often corners. The profiles are applied to the walls along the marked lines. Through the hole in the profiles, the future sections for the dowels are outlined. Upon completion of the preparatory work, the profiles are fixed to the walls with self-tapping screws 35 millimeters long and 6 millimeters in diameter. These dimensions provide a secure attachment to the walls. The first installation is followed by a second corner. It is installed with a fit to the first corner along a horizontal line.

Image
Image

Upon successful completion of joining corners no protrusion or deviation along the marked lines should be observed … When the work moves to the inner corner, it is recommended to decide on the location for cutting the profile. You have to turn it so that the back is against the wall. Then draw a line on the baguette one centimeter from the corner. File the back side of the baguette carefully, taking care not to touch the front walls of the profile. Further, the profile is bent to the required angle shape and fixed with dowels and screws.

Outside (or outside) corners make installation easier … To do this, attach the profile to the wall and, stepping back two centimeters from the corner, make a mark. Next, at the junction of the profile with the corner of the wall, make a second mark parallel to the first two centimeters apart. The marked part is cut out and removed. With a plastic profile, a construction knife is used, with an aluminum profile, pliers … Further, the profile is bent at the corners of the center of the recess, where you need to finally attach it. Further, a clothespin for curtains is installed, if there is such a need. You can discard the profile material remaining after work.

When using a baguette, parallel cuts are made on the curved sections of the walls on the back side of the baguette. The profile is applied to the wall and bent to the required shape.

The easiest way is to stick the baguette. It is necessary to glue it correctly and only with a high-quality composition. In this way, you can install the structure without unnecessary effort and secure it securely.

After installing the corner profiles, it is recommended to process them; for this, seal the joints with tape.

Tips & Tricks

Please note that any of the profiles presented, no matter for the ceiling or corners, potentially "eats up" the height of the room by at least two centimeters.

Installation of plastic profiles is appropriate in a room with curved sections. They can be easily covered up. If you plan to create straight and curved shapes, opt for hidden profiles that snap to wall surfaces.

For fastening the canvas to an uneven wall, it will be more practical to purchase a PVC baguette, while for installing a complex structure, give preference to a more durable and reliable aluminum profile.

Beautiful examples in the interior

A narrow decorative baguette looks very stylish and sophisticated. It is well suited for a modern interior style.
