Features of the

Plasterboard finishing sheets are attached to an iron crate, which consists of metal profiles. They are fixed with galvanized screws. To create a supporting structure that will bear the weight of the gypsum board, you will need various types of galvanized elements and connectors.

Steel structures of the German company Knauf are easy to assemble and serve for a long time. It will not be difficult for a professional to assemble a frame from such metal components.

The reputation of the Knauf company at the moment is impeccable. Plasterboard profiles from this brand are recognized as the ideal example in the field of building structures and interior cladding. Reviews of builders about working with profiles are extremely positive. The company's products are considered to be of high quality and reliable. Their release is strictly regulated; defects are eliminated during the production process.

Choosing Knauf profiles, you can be sure that in a few years you will not have to dismantle the ceiling or wall again to rework the structure. But still, before buying, you should familiarize yourself with the features and types of brand products.

Production technology

The elements of the frame structure are made of steel (coiled tape) using cold rolled products.

Profile properties:

  • high level of strength and rigidity;
  • resistance to corrosive effects;
  • resistance to temperature changes;
  • unlimited period of use.

Galvanized profiles create a strong and unbreakable foundation for the subsequent fixing of drywall. They can be used in any type of premises, both small and large. Metal strips have different sections and sizes.

A variety of profile types allows you to create simple suspended and curved structures, frame openings (windows, doors), and mount niches and arches.

Before starting finishing work using drywall sheets, you need to decide which profiles will be used in the process.

Wall and ceiling bases

A pair of structures (CD, UD) are used to create iron lathing on the walls and ceilings. They are of a standard size. The differences are manifested in metal and footage. An arched post profile can also be used.

  • The direction is set by the UD profile. The main task of this element is to outline the parameters of the cultivated area. If the basis for finishing with plasterboard sheets is formed, then this profile is placed along all four surface boundaries. Its standard size is 27x28mm wide. In length, such products are three and four meters. The key indicator of profile durability is the thickness of the metal from which it is made. The thicker the metal, the stronger the walls of the product. Accordingly, the overall rigidity of the structure also increases. For example, for the ceiling it is better to use thicker profiles, and on the walls, you can do with thin sheet steel elements.
  • CD profile bears the brunt of the design. It is used for the final creation of the frame structure. GCR is attached to it, it is responsible for the stability and rigidity of the crate. The product can be made of steel of different thickness. The thin profile is unreliable. It also requires more additional hardware. The standard profile size is 60x27 mm. The length of the steel element can be 3 or 4 meters.
  • Profile for arches characteristics similar to the CD profile. It also has a bearing load. The main difference is that it is perforated and notched. This quality allows the profile to be bent and shaped into an arc. The length of the product is usually the same as for CD and UD profiles.

Construction of partition elements

Steel structures for false walls differ in that they have a larger size and a different purpose. Their size range ranges from 50 mm to 150 mm (50, 75, 100, 125, 150). For example, a product can have a size of 100x50, etc. The width of the profile is selected based on what the partition will serve. For example, for laying large communications, a wider profile is needed. The higher the required parameters of thermal insulation and sound insulation, the wider the galvanized element should be.

  • UW profile sets the direction. Its attachment area is a given perimeter.
  • CW profile reinforces the lathing and gives it rigidity. The step of fastening the steel element is 400 mm. This allows you to fix the gypsum board sheet on both sides.

Fasteners and accessories

To install the cladding plates, you need not only steel products, but also a number of auxiliary fasteners. With their help, the galvanized profiles are connected to each other, and the gypsum board is attached to the fixed frame.

  • Detail ES 60x125mm … This is a metal plate that can bend and take the shape of the letter "P". It is perforated over the entire surface. Its main task is to connect the surfaces with the profile lathing. In the middle of the product there are holes for fixing to the wall. The sides of the part are attached to the main galvanized element using self-tapping screws.
  • The quick-hanging butterfly serves as an attachment where the ES part fails (lack of required length). It consists of several elements. It is a spoke with an eyelet and a hanger that attaches to the main CD profile. The length of the wire with the loop is 25 cm, 50 cm or 100 cm. The spring fixes the wire and the butterfly together. It can be adjusted by simply pressing your finger. However, this system also has a disadvantage. The spring can weaken, and this will lead to the ceiling sagging over time.

Butterfly hangers are not used in the construction of walls. For this, U-shaped brackets are used.

  • X-shaped coupling in the common people called "crab" for connecting CD profiles. It is used for perpendicular joining of the main profiles. The "crab" is snapped onto the element, and then it is finally fixed with screws and self-tapping screws. To put a jumper between the profiles, you need to select the places with the couplings and place it between them. It is fixed with self-tapping screws for metal.
  • Connector for CD profile. It is used to grow the main profile. The element is between two guides, connecting them. It is fixed on each side with self-tapping screws.
  • Fastening element for two-level connection it is rarely used during installation due to its specificity. Its use is advisable in cases where a wooden floor acts as a basis. The metal structure turns out to be double. The first level of galvanized elements is not attached to the wall (floating). The second layer of the structure is attached to the first with connectors. Installation of such complexity is required due to the fact that the wooden base is subject to deformation changes (moisture level, temperature regime). The fastening element compensates for these vibrations.

All types of galvanized profiles and additional parts are fastened using spacer and hammer-in dowels, self-tapping screws for wood and metal, screw screws.

How to choose

When buying a profile, you should consider the advice of professionals. The reliability of the structure and its durability depend on the correct choice.

  • The best products are profiles with the simultaneous application of zinc and polymer. Galvanized elements are also good (with a two-layer application). So the future frame is protected from corrosive effects.
  • An important point is the thickness of the product. The indicator of 0.5 mm is the minimum guarantor of the stability of the frame.

Wireframe Tools

The core kit includes several basic tools.

  • Screwdriver. With its help, a huge layer of work is carried out, it is involved in many processes. Therefore, you need to choose this important tool consciously. The cordless screwdriver is more suitable for “home” craftsmen, and the cordless screwdriver is more suitable for professional use on large areas. In the latter, there is a special tape-type nozzle, which makes it easier to work with self-tapping screws.
  • Perforator … It will be needed if concrete or brick acts as a base. With its help, they make round holes for dowels, which attach the profile to the base.
  • To cut metal parts, it is recommended to use saw … But if the volume of work is small, metal scissors or a hacksaw with a fine tooth are used. It is important to have in your arsenal several types of cutting tools (for example, for large and small notches).
  • Profile cutter. With its help, it is convenient to make even holes in the metal. The fabrication of the steel frame is much faster this way.

Image
  • Special pliers. Their use is possible where the screwdriver does not pass or does not reach the profile. Pliers connect steel elements. In this case, additional fasteners are not needed.
  • Laser or regular building level with a bubble inside … A modern laser measuring device is, of course, more convenient, but also more expensive than a conventional one.
  • Roulette with limiter … It is more convenient to use tape measures 5 m and 7.5 m long.

General installation guidelines

The variety of manufactured profiles is due to their purpose. Each type has individual characteristics and is mounted in its own way. However, there are several important recommendations that are suitable for any type of product:

  • installation work can only be carried out in a dry room;
  • before starting work, neat markings should be applied (this will save time in the process and save you from errors);
  • before direct installation of galvanized profiles, you need to check the markings with the level data;
  • before fixing the gypsum board sheets, you need to check the rigidity of the structure in order to prevent skewing in the future.

Carrying out works

The metal frame with Knauf profiles is assembled in a few simple steps. First of all, a corner of the room is chosen that is lower than all the others. It is determined using a tape measure.

Then you should move 4-6 cm away from this corner and apply markings on all sides of the room. The formed line is applied with a cord. It is a reference point for fixing UD profiles and hangers (their ends are bent).

At the last stage, with the help of fasteners, the main profiles are attached and the jumper sticks are put. The basic structure is ready.
