Features of the

Installing outlets in drywall is slightly different from other repair processes. To successfully complete the work, it is necessary to choose the right sockets and switches. And you also need to pay attention to the socket boxes. They are slightly different from those installed in concrete or brick walls.

Their peculiarity is that they are complemented by the presser feet, which are mounted on screws. By rotating them, you can move the legs along the body. As for the switches and sockets, they are available in standard sizes. And when purchasing all the necessary elements, it is imperative to check whether they match.

It must be remembered that the socket is an electrical device, which means that when installing it, you must adhere to safety rules. If you are not confident in your own abilities, then it is worth entrusting this work to specialists.

All installation work must be carried out when the electricity is turned off. All wiring must be checked for voltage. Do not touch bare wires. These are simple safety rules, which must not be forgotten in order not to risk your life and health.

Tools

To install an outlet in drywall, you need to have all the necessary tools.

  1. Rotary hammer or drill, with the help of which all the necessary holes are made. Since the standard dimensions of the socket are sixty-eight millimeters, the diameter of the cutter on a drill or perforator should be the same.
  2. Screwdriver … One is curly for installing an outlet, the other is an indicator one for checking the voltage.
  3. Markerto mark exactly where the socket will be placed.
  4. Level … If desired, you can even use a short one, because the sockets are very small in size.
  5. Chisel and hammer which are used in cases where you need to cut a metal profile.

This minimal set of tools will be enough to install the sockets in a plasterboard room.

DIY installation

In order to install the outlet in drywall, you first need to make markings. The next step is to install a pre-prepared attachment on the drill. Then, with its help, a through hole is cut out in the GRL. To make the job a little easier, you can start with a regular drill. It is also worth considering that When working with the drill, do not push hard on it, as this can lead to ragged edges in the hole.

Mounting the socket in a plasterboard wall can be done without a nozzle. It will be longer and more difficult. For this, a conventional knife is used. They need to cut through the entire thickness of the drywall.

One of the most common problems that arise when installing a socket box is the possibility of getting into the profile to which the drywall is attached. To avoid this, you need to make additional space for the socket. This can be done with a chisel and hammer. For this, an interfering piece of the profile is cut down.

In order to put a double or triple outlet, you need to make jumpers between the holes. As is the case with the regular model, before installation, you must first make a markup. A place is chosen where the outlet itself will be located, and its center is marked. Then a horizontal line is drawn through this point.

Next, seventy-two millimeters from the first point are measured and a mark is placed where the second hole will be located. As many marks are made as there are sockets in the block, and the distance between them should be the same. Then holes are cut. The result is jumpers four millimeters thick.

Installation of socket boxes

Before installation, it is imperative to make a hole where the wires will pass. Further through the junction box, you need to stretch the wire. It must be put in the hole and fixed with the paws. But you also need to know that some boxes have a groove with a smooth transition. Therefore, it turns out that near the bottom of the socket the foot is almost recessed into the groove. However, when the screw is tightened, it slowly protrudes from the top. This allows you to fix the socket.

There is another type of boxes that have an even groove. Here, so that the legs do not interfere, special niches are made for them, where they hide. To install such a socket, it is necessary to ensure that the legs are in the niches when installing it into the hole. Then the box is turned so that the foot is vertical, and the foot from the lower screw protrudes above the body itself. To prevent it from changing its position, it must be tightened with a screw.

Next, you need to turn the socket box one hundred and eighty degrees, and pull the second paw out of the niche. And only then both legs stretch out and fix the box.

Installing the socket and switch

In order to install a switch or outlet, first you need to de-energize the wiring and shorten it so that there is a margin of up to fifteen centimeters in length. Then you need to clean up its ends. The upper part is removed from the switch and the bolts are loosened. You must not confuse them when fixing. This also applies to three-wire wiring, which has a ground wire. If there is no special contact for it in the outlet or switch, then it simply hides inside the box. Before that, it must be well insulated.

When connecting the neutral and phase wires, it is important to secure the bolts well on the contacts. After the connection is made, it is necessary to install the inside of the socket or switch into the socket. Then it is fixed with screws.

Water socket

The installation of water sockets allows you to connect the supply water supply to the necessary devices. The principle of operation of such an element of the electrical network is to transfer the pressure of water from the water supply to a specific tap. That allows you to change the mixers at any time. There are different types of water sockets.

  1. Single, which are used to connect only one trunk.
  2. Solid double - they are used to connect two lines together at once.
  3. Double with embossed board. Such water sockets are installed at some distance from each other. They are attached to a special bracket.

The materials required for water sockets are non-ferrous and ferrous metals. To install them, you need the distance between the ends to be at least fifteen centimeters. The diameter of the hole in the wall must match the size of the part you want. It is imperative that before starting work, it is necessary to mark, and then drill the holes. There should be three of them.

Further, rubber is glued to the reverse surface of the water outlet and only then it is attached to the wall and tightened with self-tapping screws. The space that has formed between the wall and the outlet can be filled with putty.

Once the socket is secured and connected to the mains, you can safely use it.

If everything is done correctly, then the socket boxes will not loosen over time, and it will not be necessary to carry out the installation work again.

Tips & Tricks

If you install the outlet yourself, be sure to heed the advice of experts.

Installation is best done before the drywall itself is installed. First, a metal profile frame is installed, which is fixed to the wall surface. A corrugated pipe can be used to protect the wires.

To supply current to the outlet, you need to use a three-core, double-wound cable. If you use pieces of copper wire to fix it, then this will give the structure reliability.

And also it is worth remembering that, when installing sockets, you need to take into account not only your needs, but also building codes accepted by all. For example, you need to install the outlet at least thirty centimeters above the floor. For the switch, the height from the floor should be approximately ninety centimeters, and at least fifteen centimeters from the door.

But if the electrical appliances are in other places, then the sockets can be located where it is most convenient. For example, in the kitchen, it will be most convenient to place them directly above the table. In this case, the location of the outlet should be at least one hundred and twenty centimeters from the floor, and at least thirty centimeters from the door. This will allow you to connect devices without using a carrier.

But also, if the TV is placed directly on the wall, then you can hide the outlet behind it. Such placement pleases with both practicality and attractive appearance. In the bathroom, it will be correct to place the outlet sixty centimeters from the floor. But if it serves to connect a washing machine, then the height should be at least one meter.

You definitely need to know that to install the outlet in the children's room, they must be placed at a height inaccessible to the baby … And it is also possible to use sockets with a special mechanism, such as closing curtains. This will help protect your child from electric shock. You can additionally buy special cover plates for the sockets. They are bright, beautiful and may well become part of the interior of the nursery.

It is worth remembering that fasteners cannot be clamped and unclamped several times. This could cause an immediate short circuit in the outlet.

Installing outlets in drywall will not cause a lot of worries to the owner. Even if a person wants to solve this problem on his own and do the installation with his own hands. In the process of installing electrical wiring, it is always worth remembering the safety rules and following them in operation.

If you need help, it is better to turn to specialists who will cope with the work many times faster and will act more confidently.
