Drywall is a popular building material that allows you to create complex structures. As a rule, drywall sheets are attached to a support assembled from additional elements. One of the main parts from which the frame for fastening drywall is assembled is the suspension. Various types of suspensions allow you to maximize the planned repair plan and achieve a good result. In addition, many of them add additional strength to the structure, which makes it possible to increase the safety and resistance to deformation of the frame for fastening drywall sheets.

Suspensions are used to assemble the frame in cases where the surface that needs to be sewn up with drywall sheets has height differences or other irregularities. Hangers allow you to create a reliable attachment of the profile and guides for the sheets. Stretch and false ceilings, wall structures with complex geometry cannot be installed without special suspension systems. For each specific case, a certain type of product is used.

Hangers allow you to create a space behind a wall or under a ceiling in which communications such as electrical wires can be hidden. Also, in the formed space, you can mount the body of recessed lamps and chandeliers.

Suspension for gypsum plasterboards (GKL) is traditionally made of galvanized steel, which has excellent anti-corrosion properties, which means that it is not afraid of moisture and temperature extremes and will last 5 years or more, provided it is properly installed. You should know that the greater the thickness of the suspension part, the greater the load it can withstand.

Attention! If the repair is planned to be carried out independently, then it is necessary to follow the recommendations for choosing the type of suspension for certain tasks. Failure to comply with these rules can lead to unpleasant consequences (for example, the strength of the structure or its geometry can be significantly violated).

The same applies to the work of hired craftsmen: it is important that they follow these rules.

Types and their characteristics

Depending on the purpose and field of application, suspensions for plasterboard structures are divided into:

  • straight;
  • with a clip;
  • vernier suspensions;
  • butterflies;
  • vibro suspensions.

Straight

This suspension is the most popular of all the varieties used for installing gypsum boards. It is a simple galvanized steel plate. Its undoubted advantage is that its shape can be changed in the process of work and given a U-shaped appearance. This fastener is capable of supporting a load of up to 40 kg.

Can be used for:

  • creating a frame for subsequent plasterboard covering of a ceiling with an uneven surface;
  • frame assemblies for wall or ceiling cladding;
  • preliminary leveling of any surface.

The straight hanger can be easily attached to concrete, brick and stone surfaces, so it can be used in a wide variety of rooms.

Anchor

Hangers with a clip are used for fixing gypsum plasterboard suspended ceilings. Thanks to these elements, you can create the necessary space above the ceiling, that is, you can adjust the height of the assembled structure. This is possible due to the use of wire rod. On one side of such a suspension there is an anchorage, and on the other - a clamp. Height adjustment is carried out by means of floating suspension elements.

Vernier

It is necessary to give the structure additional rigidity. It consists of a lower part, represented by a clamp or a fastener with holes for self-tapping screws. Usually there are a lot of holes for fasteners, this is necessary for the convenience of fastening in the right place. The mounting bracket (latch) is needed to hold the gimbal in the desired position.

Butterfly

This is a special suspension that has a U-shape and curved edges that snap onto the profile and allow you to create the most reliable fastening.

Vibration suspensions

Used for sound insulation. The design of this part contains a spring element that prevents the transmission of sound waves from the overlap. Able to withstand a load of 15 to 50 kg. It is used both for sheathing gypsum plasterboard walls and ceilings.

Crab

Crabs are also used to connect structures - special fasteners for CD structures. It allows you to mount a solid frame in the shortest possible time. Crabs are used not only for suspended ceilings, but also for creating a metal frame of walls, which are subsequently sheathed with gypsum board. These fasteners are very strong and can withstand significant loads and prevent deformation.

Dimensions (edit)

The choice of a suitable type of suspension directly depends on its dimensions, as well as on the purpose for which it is needed. Straight lines have dimensions of 12.5x6x3 cm, so if a grandiose design of large dimensions with complex geometry is planned, then with the help of this type of fastener it will hardly be possible to achieve a satisfactory result. In such situations, it is justified to use suspensions with a clamp, the length of which is from 0.5 to 1 m.

You can also use elongated hangers, which are produced by some manufacturers, or it is possible to lengthen the existing hanger with your own hands. To do this, one element is screwed to the other with bolts (usually two are enough).

How far should I put it?

It is also important to calculate the number of required suspensions. This value directly depends on the load that it can withstand, taking into account the fact that a sheet of drywall with dimensions of 1200x2500 cm has a weight of 22 kg.

The hangers are capable of withstanding the following load:

  • straight - about 40 kg;
  • anchor - up to 25 kg;
  • vernier - up to 40 kg;
  • vibration suspension - from 12 to 50 kg;
  • butterfly - about 40 kg.

Thus, the vibration suspension can withstand the greatest load, so fewer of them are needed, and more anchor ones. Based on the permissible load, it is possible to understand at what distance the suspensions can be placed from each other and how much they will be needed.

It is also important to take into account the recommendations for the location of profiles and hangers, as well as permissible indents. The distance between the profiles is 60 cm, and the indent from the walls is 30 cm. The front indent is up to 1 m.

How are they attached?

In order for the installation of a structure for wall cladding or GKL ceiling to be as convenient and correct as possible, it is necessary to prepare all materials and tools in advance.

You will need:

  • profiles;
  • suspensions;
  • dowel screws;
  • self-tapping screws for metal (seeds);
  • drill;
  • puncher;
  • long rule (at least 2 m);
  • rope or cord;
  • construction plumb line.

T Installation technology includes sequential steps.

  1. The marking of the working surface is carried out. For this, the lines for attaching the guides are marked on the ceiling or wall. It is important to take into account that the fixing line must be lower than all the irregularities (if it touches the ceiling). For this it is convenient to use the rule.
  2. Holes in the wall are punched through the profile pressed against the wall with a puncher. After that, dowel screws are screwed into them with a drill.
  3. Fastening suspensions. They are installed along the axis of the profiles. Each hanger is attached with two dowel screws. They can be screwed in both in the center of the suspension and along its edges.
  4. Each profile is cut to the required length. Next, they must be inserted into the guides and fixed in a horizontal (for the ceiling) or vertical (for walls) position.

You should pay attention to the fact that insulation and sound insulation are arranged after fixing the suspensions and before fixing the profiles. Insulation plates are put on the "ears" formed by suspensions, and their edges are bent inside the frame.

Do-it-yourself repairs always bring more joy and a sense of satisfaction. With the help of drywall, creating a unique interior in the premises has become easier. And suspensions play an important role in this matter. Their variety will allow you to realize your wildest fantasies in a short time.
