The choice of materials for interior decoration of houses today is very large. The lining remains in great demand. It creates a special atmosphere of suburban housing and looks very beautiful. In order for the result of interior finishing work to please, you need to be able to correctly choose the most suitable lining option.

Features of the
Speaking of lining, most often they mean edged boards made of natural wood, although today this concept also denotes some finishing materials of artificial origin.
Ordinary wooden lining has a number of features that are important for interior decoration:
- environmental friendliness;
- resistance to temperature extremes;
- beautiful appearance;
- excellent noise and heat insulation properties.

With all the advantages of this material, its fire hazard should not be discounted. In addition, in comparison with modern - plastic - counterparts, "real lining" is more expensive. At the same time, strength and durability successfully compensate for the shortcomings of wooden boards, including those used for interior decoration.
There is a large selection of such materials on the market today, differing not only in color, but also in shape. This opens up great possibilities in creating various options for the design of premises in the house.

Today, the following materials can be distinguished from which the lining is made:
- wood;
- plastic;
- metal.
Plastic panels come in a wide variety of colors and sizes., they are lightweight, easy to clean thanks to the laminated surface, convenient to use in rooms with high humidity. If this material is handled correctly, it will serve for a long time and maintain a pleasant appearance.
Metal clapboard is also sometimes used for interior decoration. It is resistant to moisture, has a variety of textures, for example, it is performed under stone and wood.

As for the traditional wooden lining, its features largely depend on the type of wood from which it is made
- Cedar. A product made from such a tree has a high density and resinousness. Being in a room decorated with this wood is good for your health, as its aroma has a calming effect on the nervous system. And also cedar is a natural antiseptic. In addition, mosquitoes do not tolerate its smell. The appearance of the cedar lining is very attractive. One problem is that all this mass of advantages is not cheap, and therefore not everyone will allow themselves to use cedar finishing material.
- Linden. This wood has a pleasant smell and a uniform color. It is often used when decorating baths, since there is no resin in this tree. Linden does not belong to the category of resistant to decay, so the lining from it must be treated with special impregnations.

- Pine. Affordable. With a beautiful color and characteristic woody streaks, giving the finish made of it an attractive "natural". Pine is resistant to rotting, but it can be resinous. This should be taken into account when taking on the decoration of the interior space of the house.
- Larch. It is very resistant to dampness, practically does not rot, but it is very expensive. For internal work, it is not always advisable to use it.
- Oak. Elite wood with the highest performance, from the point of view of operation, and excellent external qualities. But the price of such a lining is “off the charts”. Such expenses are justified if there is a desire to decorate the walls once and never return to this issue.

Of great importance in terms of use is the lining class - "Extra", "A", "B", "C"
Best of all "Extra". It is the strongest and highest quality board with the greatest thickness and density. Lining of classes "A" and "B" are also very durable materials, but not to the same extent as "Extra", although they are suitable for finishing in any room. The cheapest lining is class "C". Despite the fact that in its characteristics it is inferior to the board of higher classes, there is a demand for it due to its low price. It should be borne in mind that such material has more pronounced traces from branches that once protruded from the trunk of a living tree.
Features of bonding boards of one class or another may differ. Which varieties are suitable for finishing a concrete, brick or wooden house inside, everyone decides for himself.

When choosing a lining, you need to focus on its profile. It can have not only a flat surface, but also resemble a bar or log. If instead of wallpaper, a log wall paneling (block house) is laid horizontally, it can create the illusion of being in a wooden building created in the traditional Russian way.
Modern lining allows you to embody various options for decorative finishes.

Scope of application
Lining made of natural wood is very organic for creating a "natural design" inside a country house or just a country house. The rooms, finished with such material, create an atmosphere of relaxation, which the townspeople so strive for when leaving for private ownership. In the bedroom with natural clapboard, you can sleep wonderfully. It is no coincidence that this material is often chosen for finishing the second or attic floor, where most often rooms for a quiet rest are located.
The lining is used to decorate the slopes of doors and windows. Moreover, with its help, you can decorate not only the doorway itself, but also the door leaf.

This material is suitable not only for a summer residence, but also for a city apartment, for example, for a corridor, hallway or balcony.
In the bathroom and toilet, plastic lining is most often used. Thanks to the huge range of colors of this material on the market, you can choose an option that suits any design idea for decorating a bathroom.

How to sheathe?
To sheathe clapboard rooms at home with your own hands, first you need to prepare the necessary materials:
- clamps;
- lining;
- wooden slats (thickness 2 millimeters).

If the types of work are not limited to decorative finishing, and in addition, it is planned to carry out insulation from the inside, you need to stock up on:
- insulation;
- vapor barrier film;
- a bar for assembling the frame.

In a house with concrete or brick walls, you first need to free all the walls from objects that interfere with work, remove old tiles and plaster that have peeled off.
In a wooden house, surface treatment under the lining with an antiseptic will be required. The cracks need to be plugged with tow or some other insulation.

For the device of internal insulation, it is necessary to make a gap between the wall and the future decorative layer from the board. This is solved by installing rails that are attached to the wall every half a meter (usually horizontally), including near the radiator.
After that, a vapor barrier is pulled onto the surface. In this case, the layers of the film should overlap each other at least ten centimeters. The intersections of the layers should be secured with tape.
After that, with the help of metal corners, the frame racks are fixed. To begin with, bars are installed at the edges from the corners so that the distance from the wall is the same. All other bars are exposed along the stretched threads. The gap between them should be a couple of centimeters less than the width of the insulation mats. It is placed in the space between the racks.
This is followed by the installation of a vapor barrier layer, and after that a rack counter-lattice is performed. It is mounted perpendicular to the location of the lining.

It should be noted that for the normal operation of ventilation, small openings must be provided from the bottom and top. They are covered with mineral wool or tightened with a mesh.
When insulation is not required, to create a frame layer, you can simply install slats that will be located across the lining.
On the ceiling, the frame for the lining is attached in the same way

To install the lining on the walls, the boards are cut taking into account their height (for vertical placement). Sheathing starts from the corner. The board is leveled and attached to the crate with self-tapping screws. (You need to drill a hole in it in advance so that it does not crack). In the grooves, the lining is attached to the crate with clamps - in a hidden way. Clamps are screwed to the lattice with self-tapping screws or nailed with small nails.
The boards are fastened together in a lock. This is how the entire surface of the wall is finished. The edge board will have to be cut from the side of the groove so that it fits into the remaining space and secure with self-tapping screws.
When all the walls are sheathed, decorative wooden corners are installed in the corners. Fix them with studs without caps. In addition, it is necessary to trim the slopes. Along the perimeter of the openings, the slats are fixed and the lining is attached to them in the same way as on the walls.

The ceiling is sheathed in the same way. The joints between it and the walls are closed with corners or a wooden ceiling plinth.
When all the work is completed, it remains to cover the surfaces finished with clapboard, special impregnation or varnish. This will give them an elegant glossy shade and protect the tree itself from decay.

Tips & Tricks
Thinking about the interior decoration of the house with clapboard, you should choose the right size of the board itself. A sheathed balcony or room will look neat and impressive only with the correct length of the product. In addition, one should not forget that the improper length of the lining will lead to an increase in the waste of building material during cladding.
How wide the lining should be depends on the design idea and the parameters of the room itself. The physical characteristics of the board should also be taken into account. The wider it is, the more likely it will be driven. And practice shows that narrower products are easier to install.

Sometimes boards of different widths are used in the same room. If you alternate them in a certain order, you can achieve an interesting external effect.
Depending on the conditions of use, it is necessary to select the thickness of the lining. For cladding inside the house, it is better to use products no thicker than sixteen millimeters.

Beautiful examples in the interior
The room, finished with clapboard, looks very elegant and cozy, especially in the electric light of the chandeliers. Open beams on the ceiling give it volume and make the room not boring. The darker window frames provide the necessary contrast, emphasizing the geometry of the room.
Fans of the Scandinavian style in the interior can safely adopt the lining. In places it looks deliberately rude, suggesting the remoteness of the house from civilization. The combination with wooden furniture and a chandelier in the form of a deer antler allows you to achieve harmony in the overall perception of space.

A house made in the Russian style cannot do without finishing with block-house type clapboard. Combining it with a brick stove or fireplace, rough dark ceiling beams and warm carpets creates a magical atmosphere of a Russian fairy tale, into which you sometimes want to escape from the bustle of the city.
Natural shades of wooden lining can emphasize the airiness and comfort of the interior in the Provence style. The combination of light walls with openwork wood furniture, chandeliers with many "candles" adds lightness and sweet simplicity to the interior.
