Superglue is the common name for a cyanoacrylate adhesive. A feature of the material is instant and reliable gluing of any surfaces, and therefore it is widely used both at home and in industry. However, this advantage of the product sometimes becomes a disadvantage, this happens if the glue accidentally gets on the skin of the hands or other coating during operation.

Ordinary soap is often not able to cope with the problem; more drastic measures will be required.

Where to begin?

In addition to the already mentioned cyanoacrylate, the glue contains plasticizers, stabilizers, activators and retarders. When interacting with moisture in the air, these substances become solid and firmly bond any materials.

Currently, there are many options on sale that act almost instantly - these are the well-known "Second" and "Moment", silicate glue, liquid nails, UV glue. They all work in the same way and, once on the skin, create a problem for the master.

The hardened product can withstand temperatures of more than 100 degrees and withstand a weight of up to 200 kg per 1 cm2, and therefore it is very difficult to remove superglue that accidentally falls on the surface.

  • when processing the surface, make sure that there are no children and animals nearby;
  • check the expiration dates of the agent used against dried glue;
  • prepare a cotton pad, rag material, soapy water, spatula;
  • make sure the glue only leaves one stain;
  • if the glue gets on the skin, then do not resort to aggressive agents, use simple soap compositions;
  • After removing the glue, rinse the surface, wash your hands well and apply a moisturizing lotion to the skin.

People's councils

To remove the glue from the surface at home, you can purchase special products, for example, Dimexide or Antiklei, and folk options for removing superglue from various surfaces are also suitable.

Solvent options

There are several known types of solvents.

  • Acetone - suitable as a solvent for superglue that gets on varnished and painted materials. Make sure the product will not damage the surface before use. Then soak cotton wool in acetone, apply to the contaminated area, after two minutes, rub the coating with effort. Take care of your hands when handling acetone.
  • Petrol - used when glue gets on the skin. You need to moisten a cotton pad in gasoline and apply to the place where the glue got into, then rinse the skin thoroughly with soap and water. Gasoline will only help if the stain is fresh.
  • Ethanol - apply a tampon soaked in alcohol to the stain for a few minutes and wipe it off with pressure. Compresses in this case will not help, since alcohol quickly disappears.

  • Soapy water - the most gentle option, but it only helps if you react quickly. A coarse piece of cloth well moistened with soapy water is applied to the stained area and the glue is wiped off. Once the product is dry, water will not help.
  • Butter - helps when silicate glue gets on the glass. The vegetable oil is applied to the damage for about an hour, then the softened mass is carefully scraped off with a spatula.
  • Vinegar - the glue spot rubbed with vinegar is left for 30 minutes, after which the agent is wiped off the surface much more easily.
  • Petrolatum - acts like a vegetable oil. Provides fast breakdown of molecules due to its high fat content, dissolves dried glue.

Products for different surfaces

To clean the superglue from your hands, the safest options are nail polish remover and a solution of water, vinegar, and soap. In the event that the product has already dried, you should release your hands into a container of water for 30 minutes, and then wipe them with a scrub.

Acetone is the best solution for removing glue stains from tiles or metal. An effective way would be to create a so-called compress. A cotton pad moistened with acetone is tightly sealed with tape on the damaged area. In an airtight environment, the glue will heat up and melt, it remains to remove the tape and wipe the stained area.

To remove the glue from linoleum, you need gasoline or kerosene. We moisten a rag in the selected product, apply to the stain and wipe. You can use a spatula if necessary. After work, wash the damaged area with water.

In the case of elimination of glue from linoleum or rubber surfaces, acetone or special solvents must not be used, they aggressively act on any surfaces and can damage the material.

Ethanol will help wipe the glue off the plastic. Other products can adversely affect the condition of the plastic surface, for example, Dimexide. In this case, acetone will not cope with the problem, it will only change the color of the stain. In general, if superglue gets on the plastic coating, it is better not to wait for it to dry, but to fix the defect right away.

Do not completely dissolve the glue on a wooden surface, in this case you will have to use the scraping and grinding method. Dimexide or acetone will help remove the surface layer, then the wood needs to be sanded.

Any solvents that will not harm the fabric, such as petroleum jelly, glycerin, butter, margarine, or any other fat, will work to remove dirt from clothing. In addition, you can freeze the stained clothing, then rub the damaged area, the dried glue should crumble.

Best options

There are several ways to deal with glue on the skin of your hands without the use of various means or using the most affordable of them, that is, those that are almost always found in every home.

  • You can use a female nail file to eliminate the thick layer of glue, but be careful not to overdo it, otherwise you can injure the skin.
  • A common common way is to resort to using pumice. To do this, you need to steam the skin in hot water, and then wipe the affected area with a pumice stone.
  • Some masters prefer not to solve this problem at all; after a few days, due to daily hygiene, not a trace of glue will remain on the hands.
  • You can prepare a mixture of salt and lemon juice, rub the damaged areas with a mass. After a few minutes, the stain can be dealt with.
  • Another available method of dealing with superglue is to hold your hands in a container with vodka, it promotes deoxidation and dissolution of glue.

But there are also several other available ways to rid the surface of the glue. For example, the method of freezing in case of contamination of clothes was mentioned above. But the opposite method of heat is also effective. Napkins are laid out on the soiled area, then this place is ironed with an iron, the napkins are abruptly removed from the fabric to avoid sticking. The method is not allowed if thin fabric or knitted product is stained with glue.

To get rid of the stain, you can simply soak it in water for 3-4 hours and then wipe it off with laundry soap. You can help yourself with a brush. To remove old glue, it is also suggested to soak the fabric in water with dissolved detergent and soda. Soaking time is 3-4 hours.

The most dangerous situation is if the glue gets in your eyes. In this case, do not rub the visual organ, rinse your eyes with a large amount of warm water with a syringe, drip an anti-inflammatory agent and apply a bandage. Wait for the arrival of an ambulance, the doctors will remove the remaining glue with tweezers.

How can contamination be prevented?

To keep the glue from getting on the coating or skin, use the following guidelines:

  • before working with superglue, wear a work uniform that will hide the skin as much as possible from accidental drops;
  • wear protective goggles to avoid getting adhesives in your eyes;
  • be sure to open the windows before using the product, check the ventilation;
  • try to use no more than the required amount of glue, as its excess will come into contact with other coatings;
  • cover adjacent surfaces if you plan to process any items;
  • do not try to press hard on the tube so that the sticky substance appears, just pierce the clogged nose with a needle or toothpick;
  • always hold and direct the container of superglue away from you;
  • when the tube is half full, do not fold the used part, cracks form in the folds, through which the agent flows out, staining the surface.

Thus, it is possible to wipe off the second glue from any surface without purchasing specialized formulations., however, it is still better to observe safety measures and prevent accidental contact with this product on the work surfaces and skin of the hands.
