Composition and properties

Titebond glue is a professional carpentry product that has found wide application not only in production, but also in everyday life. The composition of the adhesive is represented by aliphatic resins, polymers, polyurethanes, protein, synthetic rubber and water. The material is not abrasive, which guarantees the safety of the cutting tool when cutting products.

In a liquid state, the adhesive has a stable chemical viscosity due to the strong cross-linking of the mixture. This prevents excessive fluidity and greatly facilitates installation.

After drying, the composition becomes quite resistant to negative temperatures., which allows you to use the tool for the repair and manufacture of items, the operation of which will be carried out in outdoor conditions. Despite the thermal stability of the composition and its ability to tolerate temperature exposure well up to 40 degrees, it should be remembered that when the temperature rises to +100 degrees, the glue can ignite and sustain combustion. Titebond is well tolerated by solvents and can be easily removed from the surface before it dries. The initial setting time of the adhesive is 10 minutes, the viscosity of the composition is 4000 mPa / s. The pH value corresponds to 3 units.

The dry residue of the product after drying is equal to half of the original volume. Subject to the storage conditions, the composition is suitable for use within two years after opening the bottle. The optimum temperature for gluing is + 10-12 degrees. The glue consumption varies from 170 to 190 g / sq. m. It depends on the environmental conditions and the degree of porosity of the wooden surface.

Advantages and disadvantages

High consumer demand and a large number of positive reviews about Titebond wood glue due to such indisputable advantages of this composition:

  • the presence of a world-class certificate indicates the high quality of the material and implies its use as a professional tool;
  • the mechanical strength of the seam being formed is several times higher than the strength of wood;
  • the glue is environmentally friendly and non-toxic, which allows the glued products to be used in residential and public spaces without restrictions;
  • durability of the connection makes it possible to use glue in furniture production and construction;
  • the composition does not adhere to metal surfaces, which greatly facilitates the choice of a tool and its care.

The disadvantages of wood glue include the impossibility of joining wet and painted parts, as well as the need to comply with the temperature regime in the room during installation.

Scope of use

The area of application of Titebond glue is quite extensive. The product can be applied to wood of any age and species. It is perfect for bonding laminate, plywood, cardboard and paper in any combination. In the woodworking industry, the composition is indispensable in the manufacture of furniture, decorative flooring and doors. In the field of design, glue is often used for artistic decoration of interior items with wooden elements, and during repairs it often acts as a sealant for covering joints. One of the modifications of the glue is specially designed for the manufacture and repair of musical instruments. Due to its high moisture-resistant qualities, the absence of an abrasive effect and good resistance to mechanical stress, the composition is widely used for veneering MDF and chipboards, repairing school and home furniture, as well as as a means for restoring antiques, wooden souvenirs and household utensils.

Varieties

The model range of joinery consists of about 25 types of glue, presented in several series.

Original wood glue 5064 473 ml is available in red packaging and is used for the production of musical instruments. Due to the particularly hard structure of polymerization, the agent does not affect their sound and can be used for both wind and string versions

Titebond II Premium 5004 Is a one-component moisture-resistant compound, available in blue packaging. The mixture sets quickly, is insensitive to solvents and has a short full hardening period. The formed seam has an elastic structure. The adhesive is widely used for benches, mailboxes and garden furniture, and due to its non-toxic composition, it is suitable for repairing cutting boards and other products that have indirect contact with food. The product is certified, fully meets the stringent requirements of ASTM-D 4235 and complies with the 3D moisture resistance class

Titebond III - This is a particularly durable waterproof compound, which is available in green packaging and is intended for gluing objects that come into direct contact with food. It contains no solvents and is based on safe polymers. The product is stable when freezing and can be used at low temperatures. It is suitable for both hot and cold gluing methods, it does not need to use a press when drying. Due to the polymer water-dispersion basis, the product is considered universal and perfectly adheres not only wood and laminated veneer, but also plastic. Consumption is 190 g / sq. m, the PH level is 2.5 units, and the mobility of the working surfaces after applying the glue varies from 10 to 20 minutes. This time is quite enough in order to adjust the arrangement of the elements among themselves and ensure neat gluing. Despite its high water resistance, it is not recommended to use an underwater connection agent

Heavy duty is the strongest composition. It is capable of bonding brick, concrete, fiberglass, ceramic, hardboard and stone substrates. High adhesion is due to the presence of synthetic rubber as the main component. The adhesive is effective on damp and frozen wood substrates, forms an elastic joint and tolerates mechanical and vibration loads well

Features of use

Both surfaces must be thoroughly prepared prior to application. To do this, remove mechanical debris from them, and, if necessary, dust them. Then the glue is thoroughly mixed and applied to the parts with a brush. After the connection is completed, you have about 10 minutes in stock. During this time, you can correct the location of the parts and remove excess glue with a damp cloth. In case of contact with the skin, the contaminated areas should be rinsed with plenty of warm water.
