Corrugation is widely used in the installation of plumbing fixtures. It differs in diameter. So, for toilets, a wide pipe is used, through which water goes into the sewer faster than if a knee was installed.

Appointment

A toilet bowl corrugation is one of the types of pipes that is used as one of the elements of the sewer system. To avoid problems with patency, the cuff is taken with a large diameter.

Such a toilet pipe is flexible, but at the same time it demonstrates high resistance to mechanical stress.

One of the advantages among the characteristics of a corrugated toilet bowl is light weight. You can install it yourself. The system is designed in such a way that at one end, along with the cuff, there is a rubber seal. The product is made from a special thermoplastic. The length of the product can be changed. It all depends on the number of stiffening rings. Usually, the size of such a pipe is 23-50 cm. The cut can be made between the rings on soft plastic.

It should be noted that in terms of technical parameters, the inner and outer diameters differ. So, the first indicator is 7.5 cm, the second 13.4 cm. In order for the corrugation to enter the sewer pipe, their cross-section at the end must coincide. This figure is 11 cm. Compliance with this condition allows you to do without additional installation of the adapter.

Of the positive qualities of a corrugated drain, it should be noted:

  • ease of installation;
  • no need to use additional tools;
  • low cost;
  • small mass;
  • corrugated pipe is ideal for difficult areas;
  • it is possible to dock sewerage elements with different diameters;
  • plastic is not damaged by corrosion;
  • there is no need to dismantle the toilet when changing the corrugation.

However, despite the large number of advantages, the described product also has disadvantages:

  • the material does not have high strength if the mechanical load from a sharp object increases;
  • if a leak has formed, it will not work to eliminate it, you need to completely replace the element;
  • the size of the pipe must be selected accurately, otherwise too large will hang, and the small one will burst;
  • if the installation of the corrugated pipe is incorrect, then there is a high probability that, as a result, a blockage will form after a while;
  • short term of use;
  • you cannot install the product in a plasterboard frame or under a concrete screed.

Be sure to note that Due to the ribbed surface, dirt and grease are more quickly retained inside the pipe. The attractiveness of the product is also not at the highest level; smooth-walled counterparts win in this.

Types, their pros and cons

All corrugated toilet pipes can be divided into two large groups:

tough

Image
Image

non-rigid

Image
Image

If we talk about such an indicator as strength, then the first option wins. The wear resistance of the product increases the wall thickness. It is possible to mount such a sanitary product only if the deviation in height between the toilet bowl and the pipe is small. Rigid corrugated pipes are praised by users for their strength and durability, but the range of applications is reduced due to their low mobility.

If elasticity is needed, then it is better to use the second type of pipe. If necessary, such a product will take the desired shape, it can be installed in difficult places where the bend is very steep.

Such an eccentric outlet corrugation is installed on toilets, where the inlet system can be either straight or oblique.

Image
Image

At the same time, the walls of such pipes are thin, therefore, the wear resistance is low, and the strength suffers due to the thickness of the walls. It is very easy to damage such a corrugation, a careless impact of a sharp object is enough. It is recommended to use this type only when it is not possible to put a rigid corrugation or a smooth-walled pipe. Additionally, a coupling can be used.

Corrugated eccentric products are also available:

  • reinforced;
  • unreinforced.

If a large load is planned during the operation of the product, then it is better to use the first option. This corrugation is strong and durable. Therefore, it will last longer. It is distinguished from unreinforced by the presence of wire on the walls, and it acts as a rigid frame. To achieve the required technical parameters, wire of a small cross-section is used. Its installation is carried out at the stage of pouring the corrugated pipe. The plastic is simply poured on top of the metal.

Image
Image

An unreinforced version can be used only temporarily, if there is no other, but it will not last long. A corner drainage corrugation will last even less, especially if the installation was offset. As an alternative to corrugated pipe, you can use smooth-walled product. It is appreciated for its high strength and durability. Moreover, such a sewage system is less likely to have a blockage, since the walls are smooth, and grease and debris do not linger.

Of the shortcomings - more space is required to organize a bathroom … All slopes must be at a specific angle. In addition, it is not always possible to connect the pipe to the toilet bowl directly; you have to use an additional adapter. There are models with a non-return valve. To install such a conical pipe, you will need to completely dismantle the toilet bowl together with the barrel. The connection is made due to the existing upper socket at the end. To prevent water from flowing through the seams, they must be treated with a sealant. It is advisable to use a silicone-based composition.

Dimensions (edit)

The corrugation for the toilet can differ not only in diameter, but also in length. If you buy such a pipe with a margin, then no more than 5 centimeters. If you exceed this figure, then for sure it will sag under the weight. This increases the likelihood of blockage formation. The same goes for a short pipe.

If the margin is not enough for stretching, then the stiffening rings will expand to the limit, and the material between them may simply burst.

Image
Image

The diameter of the product can be 72 mm, 50 mm, 90 mm. This parameter may differ, depending on the diameter of the sewer pipes. It is always in the range from 5 to 20 cm. In apartments, a corrugated pipe diameter of 110 mm is always used. The length of the product is also limited and can be from 0.23 to 0.5 m. Experts do not advise using products whose parameters are outside the specified values, since there is little benefit from them.

How to choose?

When choosing a corrugation for a toilet, you must immediately decide for yourself what requirements the product should meet. If there is not enough space in an apartment or a private house for installing plumbing, then it is better to use a soft pipe, since it bends easily and does not lose its properties. The length should be chosen clearly, not to take with a large margin, since it will not bring any benefit. Such a product can be selected for the toilet, regardless of the built-in exhaust system. It is quick and easy to install and demonstrates the required elasticity.

Image
Image

If you want to put the corrugation on for a long time and no longer return to this issue for several decades, then the choice should stop on a rigid product and preferably reinforced. Of course, such a pipe has less mobility, but thick walls show excellent wear resistance. A consumer who prefers to receive high quality without focusing on cost will choose a reinforced product. It is more wear-resistant, therefore, there will be no complaints about its durability.

In the modern market, such pipes are manufactured by foreign companies, finding a high quality domestic product is not easy. Those who are faced with the problem of installing a toilet for the first time do not always know whether it is better to buy a long or short pipe. Experts advise to pay special attention to this point when buying.

The length should be equal to the distance from the sewer to the installed plumbing with a small margin of a couple of centimeters.

Image
Image

If the installation process is complicated by the inconvenient location of the toilet, then it is better to purchase a model in which a curved bell is provided. The bend angle can be 90 degrees, or half that value. In apartments where there is little space in the bath and it is required to include other plumbing equipment in the sewer system, it is better to use pipes with a branch.

All corrugated products are standardized. So, the length will be 21.2 cm in the compressed state, and in the stretched state 32 cm. This is a short corrugation. The long pipe is 28.5 cm in the compressed state, and 50 cm in the stretched state.

Dismantling the old corrugation

It is not so difficult to dismantle the old corrugation yourself with your own hands. Correctly remove the cuff first. Much effort will not be required, since it peels off the tap well due to the lack of a rigid attachment. Even if a sealant was used during installation, it easily comes off at the time of dismantling. You can use scissors or another sharp object to remove it.

Image
Image

Only after the work done is the corrugation removed from the socket. To remove a smooth-walled pipe, it is advisable to first cut it lengthwise. In terms of time, such a process takes more time, but the plumbing does not suffer. Replacing a cast iron pipe without disassembling the toilet is almost impossible. As one of the available options to cut metal, it is worth using the grinder very carefully so as not to harm other elements.

Image
Image

Precisely because the replacement of a corrugated pipe takes the least time, these products began to be used everywhere in houses and apartments.

Even if it is a stepped sewer system, you can change its plastic components yourself.

Installation of corrugation

If a sewer leak has formed, then it is worth changing the smooth-walled pipe to a corrugation. Installation is carried out without the involvement of a specialist, since there is nothing complicated. Anyway first, you will need to dismantle the old sewer pipes, then put new ones. The corrugation is, as it were, pushed onto the outlet. If the user has correctly selected the components, then he should not have problems with the connection. In the future, due to the tight fit of the connected elements, the likelihood of a leak again is reduced to a minimum.

In order to correctly connect one end of the corrugation, you will need to bring it into the sewer pipe. To increase the reliability of the connection, specially designed gaskets made of rubber help to increase the reliability of the connection.

When selecting the necessary part, you will need to select the diameter of the plumbing outlet and the sewer pipe. Only in this case will the connection be reliable.

It is equally important to take into account the length of the product. If it is too short, it will not be able to fit well on the toilet pipe. The length from the riser to the drain is measured. A slight deviation to one side is allowed, but not more than a few centimeters, since the corrugation also has its own tensile limit.

Before connecting the entire system, it is important to immediately understand what type of product is suitable in this particular case. Experts advise taking into account the duration of operation of the corrugation. If in the future it is planned to connect a smooth drain, then it is enough to purchase a simple unreinforced pipe. You can wear it for a couple of months without worrying about leaks.

Installation should be carried out in the following sequence:

  • it is advisable to coat the bend along the edge with a silicone-based sealant;
  • now you can tighten the cuff, and you will need to strictly monitor the position of the corrugation, because if you allow even a slight skew, then a leak will surely appear in the future;
  • gently pulling on the cuff, you will see that the tube begins to straighten;
  • the branch must be covered by 6 centimeters;
  • now it takes time for the sealant to dry and set, on average it takes 3 hours;
  • it is also advisable to lubricate the walls of the riser pipe with a sealant, because one of the ends of the corrugation is inserted into the branch;
  • after 3 hours, you can check the system for leaks.

Can be flushed down the toilet for the first time no more than 3 liters of water … This is quite enough to understand where there are leaks. After troubleshooting, 10 liters of water can be drained off. It is worth remembering that with an increase in the amount of liquid, the load on the sewer system also increases. Even the smallest leaks are detected when the water is drained. If the water does not come out, you can go with toilet paper along the junction of the corrugation. In the presence of moisture, it becomes clear that there is a micro-gap.

remember, that the installation stages also depend on the design of the riser.

Vertical

This type of sewage is used most often in private homes. In apartments, such a branch cannot be performed, since there the sewer pipes are located in a different way. The pipeline is located strictly under the plumbing, it is advisable to use fittings. An angle of 90 degrees is ideal, if an alternative is needed then two angles of 135 degrees can be suggested. The vertical bend has its advantages:

  • quickly removes water;
  • you can hide the pipe in the floor;
  • there is always a high water level in the toilet;
  • no strong splashes when draining;
  • tank breakage occurs less often.

However, at the time of dismantling the structure, you have to open the floor.

Horizontal

The most commonly used type of toilet connection. It can be used both in apartments and private houses. When organizing such a drain, it is imperative to use a fitting corner. The diameter of this element should be 11 cm. This is the option that characterized by high efficiency and ease of installation. There is no need to dismantle the concrete floor.

Image
Image

Oblique

This is an old version that is still widely used in homes to this day. The diameter of the communications does not change. It is not difficult to pick up components in the store.… There is another advantage of oblique flush toilets - they are interchangeable with plumbing fixtures that have a direct outlet. But as for fittings, their size may differ in each individual case.

One of the disadvantages of this type of drain is you need to know exactly the distance between the sewer and the toilet before starting the installation of the corrugation. Even a slight discrepancy will lead to skewing. Subsequently, the toilet will loosen, the sealant will collapse, and a leak will appear.

Advice

Professional plumbers provide many tips on how best to install corrugated pipe so that it does not leak in the future. If it turns out to be too long, then it is worth shortening it or looking for a short product right away. In fact, a corrugated pipe is a universal product, but if the joint is leaky, then it leaks. Such a leak at the joint can be eliminated very simply - it is enough to cover the gap with a sealant.

Image
Image

Sometimes it happens that the gap has formed over time due to skew. In this case, the pipe also leaks. The problem is solved in the same way as described above. But when the corrugation is stretched, it is better to rearrange it. It is advisable to use a new product, and not shorten the old one, since such a pipe has a short lifespan. It also happens that when a blockage forms, the load increases, so the sewage system flows. You just need to clean the system. If there is too much bend in the section, it is advisable to eliminate it and rearrange the pipes.

Silicone sealant should be used in the following steps:

  • installation;
  • sealing joints.

It is applied in a thin layer, after which it is smeared along the seam.
