Everyone dreams of a home in which one would always feel comfortable. To do this, when creating an interior, it is important to pay attention to many details, especially when it comes to lighting in non-residential rooms such as a pantry, bathroom and toilet. Correctly planned lighting in the bathroom not only allows you to highlight certain areas, but also favorably emphasize the beauty of the decorative finish.
The lighting in the toilet plays a huge role, because the room is always gloomy and dark in comparison with the living quarters. The choice of lighting fixtures for bathrooms directly depends not only on their area, the type of finishing of the ceiling, walls and floor, but also on the level of humidity. Any lighting fixtures can be installed in the toilet, but they must meet the following requirements:
- have high resistance to moisture, the electrical part of the case must be protected from the penetration of water drops;
- correspond to the design of the room, the size, color and shape of the shades should be in harmony with all interior items;
- provide good illumination, but at the same time exclude too bright light radiation, which can irritate visual perception.
Most often, for bathrooms, a lighting level of 150 lux is chosen with a recommended spectrum of light emission from 2700K to 4500K. The ripple factor should not exceed 10%, and the light transmission index should be from 80 Ra. If you choose the right lighting fixtures, then the toilet will always be light and comfortable.
Recently, the market has been represented by a chic assortment of lamps and lamps, thanks to which you can not only create a stylish design, but also fill a room with an atmosphere of comfort. For this room, different lighting techniques are used, therefore, in each case, a certain type of lighting devices is individually selected.
To install overhead lighting, you can use all types of lighting fixtures, the most important thing is that they meet the requirements for safe operation, which include tightness and moisture resistance. When choosing lamps for the ceiling, it is important to take into account the height of the room, since the light must fill the space evenly without leaving blind spots.
In bathrooms, ceiling lamps are usually placed in the center, while spotlights are additionally installed above the entrance to the room and along the perimeter of the ceiling.
Frontal lighting in the toilet, which can be created using spotlights, LED strips, lamps and sconces, is recommended to be mounted on the wall. This lighting option is ideal for rooms with low ceilings, which visually lengthen, and the effect of spaciousness is created inside the room. When installing lighting fixtures on the wall, it is important to make sure that they do not interfere with free movement… So, for example, sconces are placed near mirrors and sinks, and under the ceiling - LED strip.
For the decoration of toilets, they are often used floor (bottom) lighting that goes well with ceiling.
It can be installed in several ways:
- install a rectangular LED lamp in the floor,
- square or round,
- lay a flexible LED strip along the plinth.
Each of these methods can achieve good lighting levels in small spaces such as a toilet.
Description of lamps and lamps
For lighting in the toilet, you need to select lamps in such a way that they not only serve as a good source of light, but also meet all operating requirements… The most common lighting devices that are installed in the bathroom include several options.
These electrical products have a tungsten spiral, their cavity is filled with an inert gas, due to the conditions of a deep vacuum when an electric current is applied in such lamps, rupture and oxidation of the spiral is excluded. The power of the devices can be from 15 to 1000 W, for lighting in the toilet, it is recommended to purchase lamps with a power of no more than 40 W (for more powerful products, the heating temperature reaches +200 C, which is very dangerous for stretch ceilings and plastic wall panels.
The advantages of this type of lighting fixtures include reliability and long service life, and the disadvantages include a high price.
The main advantages of the products include minimal consumption of electrical energy, luminescence efficiency, compactness and increased protection against moisture. Despite the fact that this type of lamp cannot be attributed to the budget option, they are very popular. But when choosing these lighting devices, you should pay attention to the manufacturer, since there are often cheap fakes on the market that quickly fail and make noise during operation.
Halogen lamps are available in two types: open and recessed (located in suspended ceilings, the design of which can be represented by different materials). For bathrooms, spotlights are considered an ideal choice, which have the ability to change the direction of the luminous flux.
They are flasks filled with mercury vapor under pressure. Such devices are unsafe to use, they last much longer than halogen lamps, but mechanical stress should be avoided during their operation. TO pluses this type includes an increased threshold for light temperatures and good light output. For lighting in the toilet, it is recommended to purchase fluorescent lamps, which are marked with the designation "D".
These are the best toilet lighting fixtures. Their luminous efficiency is many times higher than incandescent lamps and can be up to 150 lm / W. In addition, the LED luminaire has a long service life and looks gorgeous in a modern design. You can also decorate the toilet ceilings around the perimeter with LED strip. The main disadvantage of such lamps is the negative effect of white light on the eyes.
In addition to the above lighting fixtures, bathrooms are often installed LED backlight for a toilet with a motion sensor, it has automatic activation. Such illumination does not increase the brightness of the lighting in the room and has mainly a decorative function.
How to arrange?
Before you start installing lighting fixtures in the toilet, you should think carefully about their placement. For small bathrooms, the best solution would be installation of three to five spotlights… In addition to the main lighting in such rooms, you should additionally install automatic lighting, thanks to which it will be possible to significantly save the consumption of electrical energy. It is also worth noting that the automation of lighting in the bathroom facilitates the operation of devices (there is no need to install switches).
In toilets, which are combined with a bath and have a large area, to the main ceiling lighting (this is usually a high-power luminaire located in the center) wall lamps should also be added. Them are the best place next to a mirror or near a toilet. Looks gorgeous in the design of spacious bathrooms and lighting on the shelves.
Light panels that are installed on the back wall are also very popular now. They allow you to decorate the interior in an original way.
For toilets in private houses, the area of which is usually several times larger than in city apartments, it is recommended to purchase several lamps. Some of them can be placed on the ceiling, complemented by an LED strip. In addition, you can place in such bathrooms and 4-5 spot floor lamps. They will favorably emphasize the features of the decoration and the interior of the room. In toilets combined with a bathroom, it is recommended to do three lighting options at the same time:
- ceiling - recessed lamps and chandeliers,
- wall - sconce,
- outdoor - LED strips.
In narrow and elongated rooms, it is recommended to place small wall lights, they must be installed on both sides. If the layout of the toilet provides for the presence of such interior items as semi-columns and columns, then spotlights must be placed in such a way that there are no dark areas in the room. Today, in a modern interior, you can often find a circular, staggered arrangement of spotlights.
Installation lighting in the toilet is easy to do with your own hands, but for this you need to have experience and knowledge of connecting electrical appliances. Restroom - this is a room with high humidity, so if you install the lamps incorrectly, there can be bad consequences. The order of installation work is as follows:
- first of all, a diagram of the passage of wiring and the location of lighting devices is being prepared;
- then the wire is installed (in plastic ceilings, the wires must be fixed on special fasteners in the corrugation) and the output to the box;
- the installation is completed by connecting to the phase, this must be done with the power off in the bathroom.
In addition, it is worth considering that the wiring must run at least 1.5 m from the floor. All connections, including those in the box, must be carefully insulated. To hide the wiring, the walls must be covered with a moisture-resistant putty.
