A metal railing for a porch can be a very practical solution. But it is necessary to carefully deal with welded metal fences, with options from a profile pipe and stainless steel for stairs.
It is also useful to get acquainted with specific examples of design.
Features of the
It is quite convenient to use metal railings for the porch. They are assembled very quickly, while, of course, they are distinguished by excellent strength and serve for years without any complaints. Other advantages are noted:
- upgradeable without complete disassembly;
- a wide variety of models - from everyday to elite categories;
- excellent compatibility with other materials;
stable work in frost and heat;
- ease of carrying to a new location;
- an abundance of design options.
But metal railings also have weaknesses, because of which they often have to be combined with other structures:
- quite a tangible price (first of all, this applies to forged parts, but welded parts are not entirely budgetary);
- the need for treatment with anti-corrosion mixtures;
- tendency to form ice;
- loud noise from the rain.
Metal railings consist of two main parts - racks (they are balusters) and handrails.
One of the best options for obtaining them is using stainless steel.
Its name alone indicates that this material will not corrode. Stainless steel is also strong enough, therefore it is reliable and does not cause problems even under heavy loads. In addition, such an alloy:
- relatively light;
- easy to process (it is easy to get welded railings for stairs with original patterns from it);
- tolerates aggressive, caustic substances;
- functions stably even in bad weather conditions;
- allows you to save money when leaving.
However, stainless steel itself is quite expensive. And that's why quite often they choose other street railings from more affordable materials. One of these solutions is aluminum. It is still relatively strong, but much more ductile than steel. The shapes of products from the aluminum profile are very diverse, and the color is almost unlimited - even a spiral staircase can be easily made.
There are several reasons to use a railing from an aluminum profile pipe in a private house:
- lightness (compared to iron counterparts);
- 100% corrosion protection;
- the possibility of installation without welding and polishing;
- ease of subsequent maintenance;
- ease of dismantling.
But there are many other options as well. So, quite often there are railings made of copper alloys, and first of all - from brass. Some modifications imitate a golden surface. As a result, they look emphatically prestigious. The strength of high-quality brass, if inferior to the strength of stainless steel, is only very slightly.
This material can be processed without any problems and is also distinguished by its plasticity - and the tendency to oxidation can be aesthetically beaten.
The material used usually corresponds to the type of handrail. So, prefabricated options, which are installed more often than others, are obtained from aluminum or stainless steel. A special coating for better protection can be applied directly in production. But welded products obtained from stainless steel are first bent in a cold state and only after that:
- clean the seams and other parts of the surface;
polish the metal.
Railings with castings of bronze or brass are rarely used. The main obstacle is the high cost. Such constructions are obtained in special forms. When cooled down, they are thoroughly cleaned, but this is not the final stage of processing. In most cases, this technique allows you to achieve individuality of products.
Attention should be paid to the properties of the materials used. But they should be made more specific. Thus, stainless steel structures are distinguished by both aesthetic and practical advantages. Such railings are safer, regardless of the specific season. They must in any case be consistent with the stairs and the surrounding landscape.
At the same time, errors in the selection of parts can spoil the whole impression. When the run is close to a wall, the handrail should be attached directly to it. The section of the tube should be such that the teenager's palm can grasp it and hold it firmly… Why such a transitional age group is named is not difficult to guess.
If you plan to systematically move the structure, of course, you should give preference to a disassembled handrail.
Factory assembly is definitely better than using a clutch with an oval edge, where the hand constantly meets obstacles. If the second option is still chosen, you need to pay attention so that you can put the elements at the required angle. Welded railings are mainly used to give an original design. To help people with limited mobility, use:
- reclining handrails;
- stationary type holders;
- wall mounts that allow you to move safely and comfortably.
Stainless steel works well with wood… On the basis of their combination, it is easy to form a different type of design. To achieve maximum visual airiness, glass canvases are used. Optimally, such a solution will fit into the style hi-tech. But if the building is in a more traditional style, you need to look for alternatives.
The handrails should be such that the ascending or descending person can maintain their body position on them.
But this is only a minimal formulation of the problem. It is more correct to say this: the handrail must prevent (together with other structural components) any unintentional fall as long as it is held firmly and firmly… When selecting balusters, they are guided by the coincidence with the aesthetic design style. The actual railings are chosen at their own discretion, being guided additionally by the general expediency.
The correct connection of the handrails to each other is ensured by the tips. They can be of adjustable or non-adjustable type. The choice is determined by how the main elements are connected to the racks. The handrails are sometimes attached not to the racks, but to the walls using the hardware and glue method. The holding elements fall into three categories:
- adjustable with a tilt - can be adjusted to almost any place;
- straight lines without adjustment - used only on straight surfaces;
- adjustable straightened - also needed for straight sections, however, they allow the height of the handrail to be changed.
You also need to pay attention to:
- the strength of the bolt holders;
- reliability of protection of the handrail with decorative covers;
- quality and visual performance of the glass holder (if it is planned to equip the stairs with glass elements).
Before choosing, it is useful to familiarize yourself with SNiP 4-14-84 and GOST 23120-78. It contains comprehensive safety requirements. A single handrail can be dispensed with with a staircase width of a maximum of 1.25 m (if there is a wall at one end). With a width of 1.25-2.5 m, a barrier is needed on both sides. On the street, the height of the structure cannot be less than 1.2 m. If desired, even cast-iron elements can be used - but they are quite expensive and are made only by special orders.
Black forged railings look very elegant.They blend elegantly into any environment.
But ferrous metal mesh structures may also be a good choice.
Here's another good option. It combines perfectly with the entrance group.
