A small wooden hut without a porch will be unfinished. As well as a luxurious mansion, it is difficult to imagine without a porch. This element, in fact, solves more problems than it might seem at first glance. Take at least the fact that the porch is the transition between the external and internal space. The open landscape is replaced by a closed interior, and everything is through the porch. Therefore, it makes sense to carefully consider the appearance of this transitional element: for beauty, harmony, convenience. And why not, finally, do it yourself.

Type selection

Type, look, shape - there are many signs for classifying a porch. And there really is plenty to choose from.

The porch can have different shapes

Speaker. This is a traditional type of front entry element, usually with a sloping canopy that rests on pillars. The staircase to such a structure can be on one side or on both sides

In the form of a gallery along the house. If the porch is stretched along the facade, it turns into a gallery. This would be a good solution for houses located in the southern regions (or facing the sunny side). The gallery protects the room from annoying ultraviolet radiation. On the gallery you can put a bench, chairs, swing or hang a hammock

In the form of a porch-terrace. Then from the porch you can go directly into the house or stay on the territory of the terrace equipped as a recreation area

In the form of a niche. The option is original and expressive, and it is more suitable for stone buildings. The porch turns out to be recessed into the very volume of the house. Actually, this is a niche in which the front door is located. This is a convenient option if there is no special space in front of the house for a full-fledged protruding element

Corner. A beautiful and ergonomic option that will give access to two sides of the house at once. The corner porch can either protrude or be recessed

It happens that the porch is on the second floor. This usually occurs if the first one is busy with a change house, garage or workshop. But it happens and if there is a noticeable relief drop on the site, this option is also possible. Solo in this situation is the staircase, which can be decorated in a variety of ways.

If we talk about the simplest and most affordable type of porch, this is a modest canopy-console above the entrance. And even a fabric awning can become its basis. The canopy is attached directly to the facade, no additional support is needed. But this option is still considered a summer cottage, suitable for mini-houses, which are mainly used only in summer.

And, of course, these exterior elements differ in the type of material: they are wood, concrete, brick, metal, stone.

How to build a wooden porch?

Work begins with drawing up a project. Separately, you can write out all the requirements for the future porch, so as not to miss a single one and come up with the best option for efficient and economical construction.

Design

The project can be downloaded on the Internet by finding some typical drawing. You can do everything yourself.

Design nuances that are definitely important:

  • the drawing should have a general view, always indicating the parameters of the spans, railings, the platform itself and, of course, flights of stairs;
  • the material of the porch is selected at the project stage, if the porch is designed for high traffic, wood species are taken from those that are stronger;
  • it is clearly thought out what will protect the porch from precipitation - a roof or a canopy;
  • the platform should not prevent the doors from opening and closing freely;
  • the height of the steps is a moment that is not always considered seriously, and with this there may be inconveniences in the future (the height should be optimal for all family members);
  • the appearance of the porch should correspond to the exterior of the house, not seem alien.

A typical mistake of many builders is to make a simple temporary porch, and then, in "better times", replace it with something more representative. They correctly say: "There is nothing more permanent than temporary." Therefore, you need to tune in to the installation of a quality structure.

Tools and materials

They make a porch from logs, pallets, boards, timber. This option is typical, even a novice builder can handle it. And at the same time, it will be a solid option that will last for decades.

It is necessary to prepare the necessary components

  • Beam for supports, section - 10x20 cm. But the size can be individual, this is only an average indicator. The choice of size depends on the degree of load on the object. As for the wood species, pine or larch will be successful.
  • Boards, the thickness of which is up to 5 cm, are needed for the flooring of the future site.
  • Handrail and baluster blanks. These are easy to find in the building market today. But if this is not possible, you need to take either a rail or a bar for self-production of elements. The dimensions are adjusted to the general parameters of the porch.
  • Solutions, impregnations and various compositions for wood. They will not allow her to rot, collapse under the influence of pathogens.
  • Concrete is needed to fill the supports.

Everything else is a matter of individual preference. For example, someone decides to definitely paint the porch, maybe even make an ornament on it. Someone will leave everything as it is.

Step-by-step instruction

  1. To begin with, the pillars of the support must be impregnated with an antiseptic agent against decay, oil or drying oil will do.
  2. The installation depth of the pillar itself can reach 80 cm. The calculation is as follows: on average, a recess is dug for a support by 1/3 of its length.
  3. If the structure is massive, the more supports, the better.
  4. Each support must be filled with concrete. After it dries, you need to check the height between all the posts. If there is a drop, it is eliminated by filing.
  5. Next, you can lay the logs on the supports. If possible, the upper edge of the stringer is fixed to the sleeper.
  6. The steps are done like this: the boards are laid on logs, fixed with nails or self-tapping screws. Boards can be adjusted to each other so that not a hint of a gap remains. The slope of the object will be 2 degrees, this is enough for water to drain. You can do it differently: leave gaps of 3 mm between the boards - the water will simply flow down immediately without stagnating on the porch.
  7. Installation of steps begins from the bottom of the stringer / bowstring. The fastening goes on self-tapping screws, the caps must be buried in the tree. First, the steps are made, and then the steps themselves.
  8. The next target is the railing. They are selected to order, but you can buy them ready-made, make them yourself. For greater monumentality of the project, the railings should be made really forged, stone or brick.
  9. Security elements are an indispensable moment in the construction of the porch. It is a non-slip rubber or rubber coating.
  10. Further, the porch must be protected: from the sun (burnout), precipitation. To do this, you need to make a canopy. For a small porch, a regular visor made of corrugated board, polycarbonate or more traditional tiles is suitable.
  11. It remains only to think about what the porch will be like. You can not just paint it, but do it creatively. For example, using stencils for drawings or ornaments.

The wooden porch is one of the most uncomplicated self-construction. Already during construction, it becomes clear whether the work is going right, elementary logic is triggered. But not everyone wants a wooden porch: to some it may seem rustic. And then it is worth considering the option of a porch made of concrete.

Concrete construction

If the porch is attached to the house (that is, one structure becomes part of another), you need to make a base. It will be connected to the foundation of the house using reinforcement.

Attention! The concrete porch should be 5 cm below the threshold line so that when the door is opened, the latter does not touch the porch area.

The work progress has its own important stages

  1. Preparation of the area for construction. If the old porch was present before, it is dismantled. The site is cleared of debris. There should be no vegetation within the construction.
  2. Calculations. It is necessary to calculate the volume of the solution. It needs cement, crushed stone and sand. Without ordinary water, too, nothing. In addition, you need to prepare: fittings, plywood and boards, waterproofing, shovel, level, spatula, screws. A concrete mixer will also come in handy, although you can, in principle, do without it.
  3. Pouring the foundation. First, a pit is made, its depth is from 30 to 70 cm. What exactly it will be depends on the depth of freezing of the soil and its heaving in frost. The pit should be a few centimeters wider than the structure itself. The bottom of the pit is covered with sand and gravel (10 and 5 cm, respectively).
  4. Assembling the formwork. The frame repeats the shape of the future porch. For formwork, boards and plywood are needed, the width of the boards is 20 cm, the thickness is at least 2 cm. First, the side elements are installed, then the supports are mounted. Further steps are collected. Then you need to lay the reinforcement inside the formwork. The interval between the rods is 20 cm. It is necessary to take into account the filling of the frame from the outside with soil, then it will be tamped.
  5. Pouring concrete. It starts from the first step. After the first section has been poured, it would be good to use a vibrating machine so that the concrete is evenly distributed inside the formwork. Bubbles are removed from the solution. The surface can be leveled using a rule. Once the concrete is dry, you can move on to the second section.
  6. Dismantling of the formwork. This should not be done earlier than a week after the porch is flooded.
  7. Facing. With her, as a rule, are also determined in advance. You can tiled a concrete porch with clinker tiles, which are equipped with an anti-slip coating. You can use porcelain stoneware or stone. Stone, both natural and artificial, is considered the most pretentious option.

And, of course, whatever the porch is made of - blocks, concrete, wood - you need to take into account the general harmony of the structure. The effect of the foreignness of these elements must not be allowed.

If the house is located next to a garden, the porch can be made similar (in color, style, materials) to a gazebo. Now people are trying to make the site more interesting, using the abundance of ideas from the Internet, their accessibility and originality. On the site, mini-stage often appear, where household members can arrange evening family performances (if the family has children, this is very important). The floor of such sites can be easily built from the same material as the porch. And you can build the stage yourself.

Other options

Of the available and common ones, two more options remain - metal and brick.

Made of metal

First, an idea appears, then a sketch, then a drawing. Then materials and tools are selected - everything is standard. The main work begins with the arrangement of the foundation. The depth of its placement is determined. A foundation pit is dug under the foundation, a cushion of rubble and sand is made at its bottom. The next stage is the installation of wooden formwork: everything is the same as in the case of a concrete porch.

Before pouring concrete, reinforcement is placed in the formwork. As soon as the reinforcement is completed, the foundation is poured with concrete - about 30 cm to the top must be left. When the ladder is installed, the concrete must be topped up to the top. After that, air bubbles are removed from it.

Then the concrete can be covered with foil and left untouched for a while.

Directly the metal part of the porch - the staircase itself, railings, visor. The staircase is made of two channels, rolled products are welded to them - these are steps. They are made from an equal angle corner, and the rolled products are then cut to size. Then the corner must be welded with the contour. Another cut off corner is taken, it is welded to another, and already this corner is welded to the channel. And so the corners are mounted to each channel. The finished steps are connected.

If there are more than three steps, a handrail with handrails with a height of at least 90 cm is required. The iron porch is not often made with your own hands, because not everyone knows how to perform welding work. But you can invite specialists, and they will cope with all the difficult moments.

Brick

The work begins with the preparatory part: all household waste must be removed from the site. Then a place is prepared where the concrete mixer will stand, sand is compactly brought to it. Finally, a brick and several squares of polystyrene foam with a centimeter thickness are purchased.

  1. On the ground, a rectangle of the porch is determined, a foundation pit is dug around the office (reference point is the depth of freezing of the soil). The bottom and sides must be cleaned up manually.
  2. The foundation of the main building is thoroughly cleared of the ground. It is glued to the full height with expanded polystyrene. A formwork is installed inside the pit, a strip foundation is cast from concrete.
  3. When the concrete has stood a little (about a week), the formwork is removed, the resulting container is covered with wet sand. The sand must be compacted.
  4. A slab is concreted on top of the tape; a mesh of the eighth reinforcement should be sunk into the concrete. As soon as moisture leaves the concrete wall, roll waterproofing is applied to it. For example, roofing material will cope quite well.
  5. Now you can finally move on to the brickwork of the porch. The first row is put in a poke, a reference point for a pattern of 1.5 bricks. At the porch, as the rows are laid out, you need to check the diagonals and measure the corners. On the third row, an indent is made a width, the cycle will complete the fourth row - masons often use a four-row dressing system.
  6. The fifth row begins with an indented tread. The base of the step is made in a poke, the parapets are placed according to the scheme of the second row, inward with a poke. The sixth row will end the third step. At the end of the work, the bowl is filled with concrete (in order to save money).
  7. The seventh row is an indent, but the entire contour is already laid with a brick. The eighth row will become the deck of the porch, which means that the entire masonry will be facing. The seams must be embroidered by removing the excess solution.
  8. From the ninth row, only parapets need to be done and again four rows of masonry, the cycle is repeated. So the railing of their brick is raised to a comfortable height. The pillars are raised two more rows, and finishing work begins. The excess polystyrene foam is cut off, the masonry joints are put in order, the expansion joint is clogged with a sealant, porcelain stoneware slabs are placed on the posts and parapets.
  9. It remains to cover the porch first with a primer, then with a colorless facade varnish.
